Java Struts Developer
We are seeking a highly skilled Java Developer to provide development support for the NEDSS (National Electronic Disease Surveillance System) project, an online disease surveillance system used by public health jurisdictions for analysis, data collection and reporting to the CDC.

Responsibilities

  • Full stack development and maintenance using Java J2EE, Enterprise JavaBeans and XML Beans.
  • Phase out end-of-life software including Struts 1.0, Enterprise JavaBeans and XML Beans.
  • Provide Application Support to ensure smooth operation of Public Health Sector applications.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to gather and analyze requirements.
  • Contribute to the overall success of the project by delivering high-quality solutions.
  • Comfortable working in an agile and lean environment to routinely deploy changes.

Basic Qualifications

  • 6+ years of professional full stack Java development experience
  • Proficient in modernizing Java 8, Struts 1.0, Enterprise JavaBeans and XML Beans.
  • Experience with developing and deploying applications in a cloud environment.
  • Experience with Test Driven Development, Self-Testing code, Continuous Integration and Continuous Deployment
  • Experience with deployment, debugging, troubleshooting, log analysis
  • Understanding of metrics, monitoring, alarming and dashboarding concept
  • Strong knowledge of data structures, algorithms, operating systems, and/or distributed systems

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience developing on NBS or NEDSS (National Electronic Disease Surveillance System) platform
  • Familiarity with Public Health Surveillance Systems.
  • Experience with ETL tools/development.
  • Experience with HL7 standards and messaging.
  • Previous experience working on CDC or other government projects.
  • Experience with SAS Reporting.
  • Public Health development experience.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in related field or equivalent experience
