Description:
QUALIFICATIONS
We’re looking for an enthusiastic and engaging team player with the following:
- Post-secondary education in Business, Human Resources or equivalent required. Additional formal education in job development and pre-employment skills development is strongly preferred.
- 2+ years experience working in job development, with experience supporting clients with disabilities.
- Proven experience achieving targets in an outcomes based funded program.
- Knowledge of the Employment Standards Act, Ontario Works, the Ontario Disability Support Program, FedCap and related government employment support and disability support programs.
- Thorough knowledge of administrative software programs, including MS Excel, Word, and Outlook.
- Strong time management and organizational skills.
- Strong interpersonal skills; ability to develop relationships with a wide range of individuals, including community professionals, clients, colleagues, staff, volunteers, and employers
- Knowledge of, and commitment to, the philosophy of inclusion.
- Excellent observation skills and written and verbal communication skills.
- Proven ability to demonstrate cultural competency with the ability to address service needs in a diverse client group.
- Fluency in a language other is an asset.
- Experience with diverse client groups preferred (age, culture, program type, etc.).
- Additional formal training in additional topics relevant to the position strongly preferred.
- Valid Driver’s license and access to vehicle. Automobile insurance in good standing.

Responsibilities:
The Job Developer role is responsible for building relationships with employers and community partners to secure meaningful job placement and volunteer opportunities for our clients. The successful candidate is an individual who is comfortable building meaningful relationships to develop connections for employment opportunities. This person will also bring with them their job search strategy and labour market expertise to ensure program and employment targets are met. They will act as the link between employers and the employment support coaches working together to achieve successful outcomes for clients.
- Develop and maintain a network of community employers to meet established targets for the clients and program, while working collaboratively with team members
- Generate job leads and market participating clients to employers and advocate on the clients’ behalf; be comfortable with cold calling.
- Work with the business community to build partnerships, increase visibility and secure employment sites for clients consistent with their identified needs and goals
- Develop appropriate placement plans and maintains progress reports
- Provide training and workshops to help clients achieve personal goals, develop job retention skills, and increase self-motivation and confidence
- Provide on-going follow-up with clients who have secured jobs and volunteer opportunities
- Maintain network of support service providers, to assist clients with appropriate additional training and access to competitive employment
- Provide advocacy and promote adjustment in the work environment by assuring that a client’s work-related needs are met and that his/her rights and dignity are safe-guarded
- Participate in case reviews, staff meetings and goal planning for each client as needed
- Negotiate and coordinate work assessments and on-the-job training opportunities with employers
- Stay current on employment trends and articulate those trends to the Manager/Senior Manager
- Apply a “person centered” approach by assisting participants in applying for employment related to client’s personal interests, skills and ability
- Meet with the employer prior to and during employment to identify expectations and specific supports needed for success at the work site. Ie. Sensitivity training, adaptive equipment, orientation, etc.
