Description:

The Halton Multicultural Council (HMC Connections) helps newcomers settle and integrate into a more welcoming and inclusive community. We are looking for a job developer to create job opportunities for their clients by researching, identifying and soliciting commitments from possible sources of employment. Please note: a second language is a significant asset please make sure you list any languages you are fluent in.

· Job rate $32.11 plus benefits based on a 35 hour week for a hybrid office environment. This is a contract position tied to project funding with some possibility of extension beyond the contract date.

QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE

  • University degree or College diploma in related discipline and two years related work experience.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Demonstrates awareness of the issues facing newcomers accessing employment opportunities.
  • Ability to develop relationships with employers and willingness to engage in outreach to secure job placements for program participants is essential.
  • Strong network of business contacts in Halton Region.
  • Knowledge of current labour market and recruitment needs of local employers.
  • Demonstrated ability to create and effectively facilitate workshops and training sessions for youth.
  • Proficiency with job search platforms (ie LinkedIn, Indeed, Job Bank) and commitment to exploring new technologies to create efficiencies, allowing for greater focus on human-centred interactions.
  • Fluent ability to speak and write in English.
  • Fluent in a second language is an asset – please do disclose any languages you are fluent in as it makes your application stronger.
    Job Types: Full-time, Fixed term contract
    Contract length: 13 months
    Pay: $32.11 per hour
    Expected hours: 35 per week

Responsibilities:

· An ability to develop relationships and “sell” the program to both clients and businesses.
· Result-oriented and client focused and a keen desire to work with Youth aged 16-29 with barriers to employment.

· Ability to develop and implement an effective outreach strategy.

  • Determine optimal placement options for clients, taking into account the client’s skills, abilities and the individual workplaces.
  • Liaise with businesses to gain relationships and potential future placement opportunities.
  • Assist the client with all portions of the employment process, including resume writing and interview preparation.
  • Book meetings with clients and employers as needed.
  • Meet with clients to determine job preferences.
  • Follow up with the employer to ensure that the client is meeting expectations.
  • Follow up with the client to ensure that the position is meeting his/her expectations.
  • When needed, work with the client to develop any additional skills required to maintain his/her position.
  • Support employers who need assistance in maintaining a client as an employee.
  • Provide motivation and guidance to clients during any difficult process of finding or maintaining employment.
  • Stay up to date on the trends for resume writing and other job searching tools and methods.
  • Manage client files, maintaining accurate records and reports regarding clients’ histories and progress, services provided, and other required information.
  • Attend workshops, career development and continuing education opportunities to maintain an up-to-date working knowledge of issues that affect the position.
  • Respect and protect the rights of clients, including but not limited to their right to independence, autonomy, and self-determination; their right to choose and practice individual values, beliefs, religion, and culture; their right to privacy and dignity; and their right to live free from retaliation, discrimination, and abuse.
  • Other duties may reasonably be assigned.
