Description:
Position: Job Developer/Interpreter
Location: Employment Development Department (EDD) Office (Glendale)
Supervisor: EDD Job Placement Coordinator
Classification: Non-Exempt, 100% FTE
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelor’s degree required.
- Must be fluent in ASL
- Achieving to obtain or already have an ASL Interpreter Certification from the Educational Interpreter Performance Assessment (EIPA) with Level 4 or above; or National Interpreter Certification (NIC) given by Registry of Interpreters for the Deaf (RID). Knowledgeable of Interpreter Code of Ethics and the role of the interpreter. Applicant should also have a basic knowledge of the Americans with Disabilities Act.
- Must possess the ability to relate and be sensitive to deaf persons with varied communication skills and language levels, and be able to work with a diverse, multi-ethnic population.
- Ability to handle personal details, data and other private information. Must maintain the highest level of confidentiality.
- Demonstrated ability to perform professionally. Punctuality and reliability are a must.
- Demonstrated efficiency with Microsoft Office programs required.
- Be detail-oriented with strong organizational and written communication skills. Must prioritize and handle multiple tasks, sometimes with competing deadlines.
- Excellent interpersonal skills are required. Must maintain a cooperative relationship with co-employees, directors, employers, outside vendors, and the CEO.
- As business needs require, employee’s schedule may be adjusted to allow for coverage at Deaf Expos and other deaf outreach events that occur on weekends.
- Must have reliable transportation and maintain up-to-date auto insurance. Extensive driving is required to attend in-person appointments and assignments.

Responsibilities:
Under the supervision of the EDD Program Manager and Job Placement Coordinator, the Job Developer/Interpreter will:
- Provide interpreting for job interviews, job counseling to clients and employers, sensitivity awareness and training for existing and potential employers of deaf and hard of hearing clients
- Work closely with the Job Placement Coordinator to provide job development/placement services to deaf and hard-of-hearing users of EDD services
- Identify and develop employment opportunities, using both traditional and non-traditional employment resources, for clients in need of employment assistance
- Provide direct communication support to deaf and hard-of-hearing employment placement coordinators at designated EDD field offices
- Perform such tasks and responsibilities as may be delegated.
