As a Joining Engineer within Body, our welding shop, you can work during the complete car program, from early phase to implementation and commissioning in the plant. You will be a part of an Industrialization team and will contribute to prepare and implement product and manufacturing processes (manual and automated). You will ensure product and process feedback are spread within the Manufacturing Engineering organization, to production and to R&D in order to fulfil the manufacturing attributes (quality, man-hours, cost efficiency, environment, flexibility, and change over). Joining Engineers support new model Launch & Program Management.
The Body & Geo Industrialization section is divided into several groups, focusing on different parts of the car program. We have staff located in Sweden, Belgium, China and US. The groups are working cross-functional & project oriented, supporting all Volvo assembly plants and projects globally. We are now looking for one new member working as Joining Engineer, situated in Volvo Car Gent, Belgium, connecting all teams but also present on our shop floor. This is position where you will build a network that includes people from various areas within the company.

REQUIRED SKILLS:
- Higher educated specialist with proven expertise and knowledge in welding engineering.
- Experience and expertise in body shop manufacturing and/or automotive industry is an advantage in this selection procedure.
- Exceptional project management and leadership skills.

- Resistance Spot Welding
- Resistance Projection Welding
- Laser Welding
- Remote Laser Welding
- Laser Brazing
- Gas Metal Arc Welding
- Drawn Arc Stud Welding
- Flow Drill
- Roller Hemming
- Adhesive Bonding
- Robot joining equipment/tool experience.
- Resistance Welding gun and Inverter knowledge. Beneficial if ARO/ABB weld guns and Bosch/Matuschek weld timers.
- Working experience in international and diverse environment is a plus.
- Experience of Manufacturing Engineering process and Facility, Tooling and Equipment process.
- Willingness to travel domestically and internationally on an occasional basis.
PREFERRED SKILLS:
- Practical experience of the automotive production process
- Knowledge about the processes and methods used within the Manufacturing Engineering area
- Experience in PLM tools such as Teamcenter, Catia and Process Designer/Simulate
Responsibilities:
- Coordinate and follow up commonality between global car plants, central Manufacturing Engineering and local Maintenance group and coordinate with other major activities within the area and project.
- Develop and implement joining and welding control plans to establish quality assurance.
- Develop, maintain, and improve both local and global engineering standards within your area.
- Share knowledge and experience, and offer trainings accordingly, to improve capability and competence of local engineers.
- Maintain good communication within the area and other parts of the organization (Subject Matter Experts, Manufacturing Engineering and Maintenance).
- Participate in the execution of technical maintenance functions and maintenance technical management in order to optimize equipment availability and cost control of production assets.
- Consistently use visualization standards in order to provide transparency on performance and challenges in your area.
- Provide technical guidance and leadership to supervisors/technicians and operator maintenance.
- Collaborate with Maintenance to define and update preventative/corrective maintenance programs.
- Align with R&D regarding all Joining Quality & Repair Methods.
- Assist and follow up with handover process toward Production.
