Description:
POSITION SUMMARY:
Jordan’s Principle is a child first and needs based principle that applies equally to all First Nations children residing on and off reserve. It ensures there is no denial or delay for First Nations Children in receiving essential public services that are available to all other children.
St.Amant embraces the goal of Jordan’s Principle to ensure that all children with disabilities have access to the health and social services they need in their community. We are currently recruiting a Counsellor to support this initiative.
This position is based in Winnipeg with travel, including to indigenous communities in Manitoba.
Working as part of a team, the Behaviour Analyst works within a family-centered practice to strengthen resiliency and support an individual or a family by providing a safe, confidential and encouraging environment to empower decision-making and to overcome challenging situations. The Behaviour Analyst actively supports all program initiatives designed to strengthen services and program integrity. The Behaviour Analyst is responsible for evaluating effectiveness and efficiency of interventions to ensure outcomes that are positive and beneficial to families.
POSITION SUMMARY AND SCOPE OF SERVICE:
- The Behaviour Analyst provides services in accordance with the Mission and Values of St.Amant, policies and procedures of the assigned Program(s), external legislation and regulatory bodies and all relevant professional standards of practice. The Behaviour Analyst is familiar with and promotes a “customer service focus” in the provision of services to clients, staff and in other professional relationships.
- As an active team member in the Program(s) assigned, the Behaviour Analyst participates in continuous quality improvement activities, including the development, modification and implementation of service and program goals, objectives, policies, procedures and standards. The Behaviour Analyst uses service evaluation feedback to purposefully and continually strengthen services. The Behaviour Analyst actively supports all program initiatives designed to strengthen services and program integrity.
- An understanding of First Nations peoples and multicultural group issues, customs, cultures, trauma issues and cultural oppression would be an asset
- Knowledge of community resources and how to make use of them
- The Behaviour Analyst works within the context of the interdisciplinary team to implement direct, consultative or mediated models of service. The Behaviour Analyst supports a client-centered approach to service or family-centered practice when applicable. The Behaviour Analyst promotes processes which contribute to self determination and the development of skills and competencies of individuals and care providers. This pertains to all areas of intervention including assessments, treatment, and implementation of service. The Behaviour Analyst is responsible for evaluating effectiveness and efficiency of interventions to ensure outcomes that are positive and beneficial to clients.
- The Behaviour Analyst performs all duties professionally, ethically and with integrity. The Behaviour Analyst takes an active role and personal responsibility for continuous learning to promote knowledge and best practices. The Behaviour Analyst participates in staff development opportunities, research and maintains all professional registration and continuing education requirements.
- The Behaviour Analyst is familiar with social policy, issues, trends, best practices in the field, needs, gaps or opportunities which may improve the lives of persons with disabilities, or which promote social justice, equity or accessibility.
- The Behaviour Analyst is familiar with and adheres to all policies related to risk management and those of workplace activity, promotes and follows all safe, healthy and respectful workplace practices.
EDUCATIONAL:
- Possess an M.A. or M.Sc. degree in Psychology from an accredited university with a specialization in Applied Behavior Analysis
Professional:
- Certification by the Behaviour Analyst Certification Board as a Board Certified Behaviour Analyst
Clinical:
- Posses a comprehensive knowledge of behavioural analysis theory and practice relevant to the support, assessment, treatment, and training of persons with a developmental disability and psychological/ behavioural disorders
- Possess a minimum of one year’s experience in providing psychological services to individuals with developmental disabilities and psychological/behavioural disorders
- Ability to work effectively with clients, caregivers and families, to supervise and teach others, and to work harmoniously with others
- Proficient in the design and implementation of psychological/behavioural treatment procedures for clients with a possible dual diagnosis
- Knowledgeable of and proficient in the use of behavioural assessment techniques; proficiency with a variety of standardized psychological assessment tools is an asset.
- Ability to analyze and interpret data obtained through the assessment techniques described above
- Knowledgeable of the literature in this area, of the history of support and treatment to this population, and of current trends, philosophies, and practices concerning their care, education, work and lifestyles
- Ability to understand and support and practice interdisciplinary teamwork in order to provide services in the clinical, educational or living environment of the person with a developmental disability
- Ability to define a service plan with individuals and caregivers
- Knowledge of direct, mediated and consultative models of practice and ability to apply these according to program protocol
- Understands own clinical limitations and seeks support and consultation for clinical activities so as to do “no harm”
- Prioritize, structure and manage scheduling caseload(s) effectively to achieve targeted outcomes

Duties and Responsibilities:
Clinical Care Management:
The Behaviour Analyst will provide services while ensuring adherence to St.Amant policies, Mission, and Values
Duties include:
- Identifies the needs of the client, taking specific responsibility for identifying psychological/behavioural needs
- Delivers services to ensure that an integrated treatment plan is developed and implemented in order to meet these needs and that support and treatment plans and consequent outcomes are documented
- Reports and documents all high risk or potentially high risk situations according to the policy
- Develops or constructs materials for client use or supervise staff assigned to this function
- Develops clinical specialties/competencies in accordance with priority needs of the clients
- Ensures that clinical activities are conducted within a research (evaluation) framework
- Promotes skill development programs within a behavioural/developmental orientation
- Conducts behavioural assessments and then designs, monitors, implements and evaluates skill development training and psychological/behavioural treatment programs for clients to develop personal adjustment by increasing adaptive behaviour and decreasing challenging interfering behaviour
- Makes data-informed treatment decisions concerning the well-being of clients when they are under the care and supervision of Psychology Services
- Provides consultative and mediated services to clients through families, respite workers, treatment staff, resident assistants, developmental services instructors, teachers, instructional assistants and other caregivers and provides regular feedback to these mediators on their performance
- Provides training to caregivers and staff in Behavioural/Psychological management techniques through group workshops, tutorial training, and unit/home or school programs
- Provides behavioural follow-up services to clients following discharge as per service/program procedures
- Contributes to the orientation and training of St.Amant staff and participates in educational activities such as providing in-services at St.Amant or affiliates
- Provides training and supervision to direct support staff to ensure services provided are individualized, and developmentally and age appropriate
- Directs, supervises and evaluates any individuals assigned to them by the Coordinator in order to fulfill assigned area of responsibility, and ensures the most appropriate treatment and care of clients
- Prepares written assessment and progress reports for clients receiving psychological/behavioural services
- Provides individual treatment sessions for individuals where necessary to promote independent and adaptive skills
- Participates in any continuing education programs required by the Behaviour Analyst Certification Board or St.Amant
- Participates in research activities being carried out by Psychology Services by engaging in activities such as developing and submitting proposals, collecting and recording data or conducting specified treatment as requested
- Ensures the involvement of “significant others” including direct caregivers (unit staff) and family members (where applicable) in the assessment and intervention process
- Ensures there is appropriate consent related to intervention or exchange of information and reviews this regularly
- Ensures that a service plan and timelines are specified for the intervention/transition process
- Consults effectively with other supports and services to ensure coordination of planning
- Participates in client reviews or IP team meetings to ensure effective communication necessary to achieve a consistent, strong client focus and follow up with clinical recommendations
- Develops a clear understanding of health or client record documentation standards according to specific programs and policies and maintains these standards in all written documentation
- Documents and maintains client files in a format consistent with program protocol and timelines
- Ensures clinical outcomes are monitored, documented and shared

Clinicians working with the Jordan’s Principle program are required to travel to various locations across Manitoba. Some of these locations are in remote communities. If staying overnight in a remote community is required, Clinicians would be eligible for travel incentives.

As a Condition of Employment, new hires must complete a series of Occupational Health checks. This includes the requirement to confirm immunization or immunity of specific communicable diseases.
