BBC VALUES
The BBC is committed to redeploying employees seeking suitable alternative employment within the BBC for different reasons and they will be given priority consideration ahead of other applicants. Priority consideration means for those employees seeking redeployment their application will be considered alongside anyone else at risk of redundancy, prior to any individuals being considered who are not at risk.
We don’t focus simply on what we do – we also care how we do it. Our values and the way we behave are important to us. Please make sure you’ve read about our values and behaviours here.
Diversity matters at the BBC. We have a working environment where we value and respect every individual’s unique contribution, enabling all of our employees to thrive and achieve their full potential.
We want to attract the broadest range of talented people to be part of the BBC – whether that’s to contribute to our programming or our wide range of non-production roles. The more diverse our workforce, the better able we are to respond to and reflect our audiences in all their diversity.
We are committed to equality of opportunity and welcome applications from individuals, regardless of age, gender, ethnicity, disability, sexual orientation, gender identity, socio-economic background, religion and/or belief. We will consider flexible working requests for all roles, unless operational requirements prevent otherwise.

MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES
Digital Audio News is looking for creative journalists who can write, read, produce and edit audio news content to the highest standard, providing the listener with a rich listening experience. We are looking for journalists with excellent editorial abilities, strong production skills, and an understanding of on-demand curation. The role involves on-air work, so candidates should have a strong and engaging voice. Our team uses artwork and text to encourage audiences to listen to our content. We are looking for journalists who are versatile in writing engaging copy and editing images as well as writing and editing for audio.
You should have a thorough knowledge of what’s happening in the UK and around the world and a good sense of the stories that can appeal to those who aren’t heavy news consumers. We want people brimming with story ideas and treatments.
Our Js work closely with correspondents, reporters and presenters, helping them to structure and re-work their linear radio and tv reports so they complement our conversational, informal style of storytelling. They will be across the latest audio news trends and technology, and possess the ideas and flexibility to help us evolve the work of the team in line with audience demands. An appetite for experimentation is a must. The role may involve planning and delivering one off projects and piloting new ideas.
The team is small, so the J needs to be a self-starter and be as happy working alone as being part of a bigger team. There may be opportunities to act up to more senior roles on occasion.
You will be expected to work a full range of shifts – early and late – across a seven day week. This is a newsroom-based role, with no working from home
If invited to interview, you will be asked to supply a sample voice recording in advance.
