Description:
Breedevallei Media, proud source of news and information in the Breede River Valley, offers an exciting opportunity in their Worcester office for a general and sports journalist.
The successful candidate must be able to work independently; have excellent writing skills in Afrikaans and English; must write relevant, commanding and factually correct news reports and articles for the weekly publication Standard and Breederivier Gazette and must be able to process reports up to the level of publication readiness.
Main responsibilities:
- Independently conduct research and research for news reports and articles with a particular focus on general and sports news
- Write quality news reports and articles on strict deadlines
- Create articles for our target audience
- Develop ideas for articles
- Adhere to the content standards, quality and style as set out by the publication
- Comply with the requirements of the South African Press Code
- Create and connect with a network of contacts for help with research for news reports / articles
- Can be asked to do page layout and other production related tasks, take photos and create content for online and other media

Requirements:
- Diploma or degree in Journalism, Languages or Media Studies
Experience in writing for a newspaper or magazine, preferably experience in a news office
- Good general knowledge and understanding of the publication’s target market
- Local knowledge and knowledge of current affairs
- Valid driver’s license
- Relevant computer skills
A passion for media
Must reside in Worcester or be willing to relocate once appointed.
