Title: Journeyman Carpenter
Department: Public Works – Service and Maintenance
Reports to: Service and Maintenance Manager
Designation: Full-Time
Review date: Three (3) Months After Start

JOB SUMMARY

The Journeyman Carpenter contributes to the effective operations of the Tsuut’ina Service and Maintenance Department and is responsible for the coordinator of the activities of sub-contractors, contractors, and other trades for all service and maintenance repairs projects.

QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS:

  • Desired Education and Experience:
    o Certified Carpenter Journeyman recognized by the Province of Alberta.
    o Minimum of three to five years of industry experience.

o Knowledge of Tsuut’ina Culture and Language is an asset.

  • Personal Attributes:

o Physical and mechanical aptitude to perform a full range of maintenance and manual tasks.
o Ability to work and communicate effectively within a team environment.
o Ability to prioritize in the scheduling of work requirements.
o A knowledge of applicable regulatory building and trades guidelines and codes.

o Ability to engage in continuing education and skills upgrading.

  • General Employment Requirements:

o Valid Driver’s License, and reliable transportation.
o Criminal Record Check.
o Oath of Confidentiality.

Responsibilities:

  • Works closely with the Service and Maintenance Manager in the planning and development stage for all Service and Maintenance projects
  • Carries emergency planning and preventive maintenance on all Service and Maintenance stock
  • Works closely with and provide guidance and training to the
  • Submits all cost estimates to the Service and Maintenance Manager for approval. Supervises all Service and Maintenance projects including minor repairs, new construction and renovation from start to finish
  • Ensure that all work is done according to standard trade practices. Canadian Building Code and provincial and local building codes
  • Keeps appropriate records including complete equipment repair history, work order, daily job, test reports and other related data
  • Determines sufficient material inventory. Locates correct replacement parts and supplies
  • Make recommendations and determines quantities and potential work time for proposed upgrades, installations, repairs, projects and budget which assist in proper costing
  • Accurately completes and documents work orders prior to submission to Service and Maintenance Manager
  • Ensures duties are performed in a fiscally responsible manner while observing all safety practices and regulations
  • Ensures that all work is done to specifications and approves work and submits to Service and Maintenance Manager for approval
