Position Overview: This unique role combines traditional accounting responsibilities with business intelligence functions to drive data-driven decision-making and strategic planning. The Junior Accountant and Business Intelligence Analyst plays a crucial role within Blenz Coffee, supporting the head office and our franchisees with insights to drive success. QUALIFICATIONS & REQUIREMENTS:

  • Educational Background: A bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business, or a related field is preferred.
  • Barista Experience: Previous experience as a barista is required; experience with Blenz Coffee is preferred but not mandatory.
  • Latte Art Skills: Ability to create latte art; candidates will be asked to demonstrate this skill during the interview process.
  • Location: Must be located in Richmond, New Westminster, or Delta.
  • Interpersonal Skills: Strong interpersonal skills are essential.
  • Collections Experience: Previous experience in collections is required.
  • Driver’s License and Vehicle: Must possess a valid driver’s license and have access to a vehicle.
  • Technical Proficiency: Proficiency in SQL, Excel, and other relevant tools.
  • Analytical Skills: Strong analytical skills and attention to detail.
  • Communication and Teamwork: Excellent communication and teamwork abilities.
  • Computer Skills and AI Interest: Competent computer skills and an interest in artificial intelligence; ability to assist in implementing AI systems within the company.
  • Citizenship: Must be a Canadian citizen or permanent resident.
  • Attention to Detail: Keen eye for spotting discrepancies and leakage.
  • Legal Knowledge: Some formal education or coursework in legal studies.
  • Comfort with Dogs: Enjoys the company of dogs, including small breeds.

Responsibilities:

ACCOUNTING RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Financial Transactions:
    · Maintain accounts receivable and accounts payable records.
    · Prepare and update financial statements, ensuring accuracy and compliance.
    · Reconcile bank statements and ensure all financial records are accurate.
  2. Budgeting and Forecasting:
    · Assist in creating quarterly budgets with senior management.
    · Analyze financial statements and contribute to balance sheet preparation.
    · Monitor budget variances and report on financial performance.
  3. Tax Preparation and Compliance:
    · Assist in preparing tax returns and ensuring compliance with tax regulations.
    · Maintain accurate records for audits and tax filings.

BUSINESS INTELLIGENCE RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Data Collection and Documentation:
    · Collect and merge data from various sources (Excel, SQL, etc.).
    · Perform detailed data analysis using relevant tools.
    · Translate business needs into data-related specifications.
    · Present data insights to relevant departmental and executive teams.
  2. Data Analysis and Insights:
    · Operate database management systems to analyze data and perform data mining.
    · Provide actionable insights based on data trends and patterns.
    · Collaborate with cross-functional teams to optimize operations.
  3. Reporting and Visualization:
    · Develop and maintain dashboards and reports to track key performance indicators (KPIs).
    · Use visualization tools to present data in an accessible and meaningful way.
    · Generate regular and ad-hoc reports for management.
  4. Policy and Standards Development:
    · Assist in developing and implementing data administration policies, standards, and models.
    · Research and document data requirements, access rules, and security protocols.
  5. Process Improvement:
    · Identify opportunities for process improvements in both accounting and data analysis functions.
    · Implement best practices to enhance efficiency and accuracy.
