Junior Accountant ~ Nonprofit Mission-based Washington, D.C.

My client is a growing nonprofit mission-based organization located in the Washington, D.C. area with a need for a Junior Accountant. The company has double in size and operating revenue in the last 18 months and due to the growth is seeking a newly create role for an Junior Accountant to support daily operational accounting needs. The opportunity will report to the Controller and offers tremendous career growth. This is an exciting opportunity that will offer training in accounting and flexible remote work options. Recent grads with a BS in Accounting, Finance, or Business are highly encouraged to apply. The Junior Accountant will be responsible for the following duties:

  • Process full cycle accounts payable, employee expense reports, and 1099s
  • Assist with preparing journal entries, maintains, and reconciles ledger accounts
  • Process accounts payable invoices and billing for clients
  • Prepare cash receipts and assist in accounts receivable and collections
  • Reviews and verifies the accuracy of journal entries and accounting classifications assigned to various records
  • Assist in month-end close and preparation of financial statements
  • Reconciliation of cash postings records to partner portals

REQUIREMENTS:

BS/BA degree in Accounting, Finance, or Business
Proficient in QuickBooks
MS Office
Excellent communication skills both written & verbal
Stable job history
Candidates must be local to the Washington, D.C. area
Vaccinated

  • Candidate must have a minimum of 1 year of experience in an Accounting Clerk role or similar position
  • Proficiency in handling 403B Plans is essential
  • Must possess strong numerical and analytical abilities
  • Proficiency in using accounting software and Microsoft Office Suite is required
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • High level of integrity and trustworthiness
  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field is preferred
  • Ability to handle sensitive and confidential information with discretion
  • Willingness to continuously improve and learn new accounting processes and tools
  • Ability to meet deadlines and handle multiple tasks simultaneously
  • Knowledge of general financial accounting and cost accounting
  • Understanding of and ability to adhere to generally accepted accounting principles.
