JOB DESCRIPTION
The junior architect’s role is purely operational as follows:
· Design projects: Work with other architect(s) and the head of design-on-design ideas and projects. This includes planning and designing of buildings along with a team of Architects, brainstorming project ideas, completing design/ working drawings, model making and assisting in reviewing project proposals. The junior architect is a part of the process from conception through development.
· Design thinking: The junior architect is a contributor to the design process, consequently the job holder must be creative, highly innovative and should be able to express his design philosophy clearly.
· Research: The junior architect will be responsible for researching on projects worked on and bringing in fresh perspectives.
· Design and working drawings: The junior architect will be responsible for working on design and working drawings assigned to him or her.
· Coordination of Project Details: The Junior architect will assist other architects by coordinating details of architectural projects. This includes building specifications, dimensions, assisting with initial project research and outlining project schedules and tasks.
· Paperwork and documentation: The junior Architect will be responsible for completing and filing the paperwork used in the design process. The job holder will help create proposals and complete construction paperwork for buildings.
· Project tracking: The job holder will ensure that projects follow legal specifications and company procedures, he/she will ensure all required documents and paperwork are submitted before the construction process starts and will provide updates when requested.
· Communication with Involved Parties: The Junior Architect will maintain communication with all parties involved in the project. The job holder will communicate with contractors to monitor the progress of projects, and when required communicate with clients as well, noting their requests, answering their questions, and sending them project updates.
· Personal and Professional Development: The job holder must constantly keep abreast of architectural trends, designs and events, continuous self-development is a must.
· Ad-hoc responsibilities: Effectively manage ad-hoc duties as assigned by the senior architect(s) and Head of Design.
QUALIFICATION AND EXPERIENCE
· A bachelor’s degree in Architecture, (a master’s degree is an added advantage).
· 1-3 years’ experience in architecture, internship experience for candidates straight out of university is an added advantage.
· Proficiency in the use of AutoCAD, Revit, sketch up, photoshop and other related architecture software/ tools. The use of 3D and rendering software is also required.
· Experience producing construction documents.
Responsibilities:
The primary responsibility of the Junior Architect is to work with senior architect(s) and the Head of Design services to actualize HTL Africa and its client’s design ideas.
