Description:
The post is designed to allow part time educational activities. Any arrangement agreed will be for a maximum of approximately 4 sessions per week in medical education balanced alongside the rota pattern for Anaesthetics. This represents a unique opportunity to develop your skills and knowledge in medical education as well as providing valuable experience in the Anaesthetics Department. It will be enjoyable, fulfilling and relevant to the future practise of any doctor. The post will allow sufficient time to explore this area in detail and develop original ideas. It will enhance professional and personal development and be flexible enough to allow independent study.
The Medical Educational component of the post will be supervised by the Associate Dean for Undergraduate Education and/or the Senior Medical Education Fellow and will work closely alongside a group of 4-6 junior clinical fellows who are employed clinically full time in the trust.
We are looking to recruit a Clinical Teaching Fellow at FY3 level,( this is for CT/C2 equivalent Salary) in a combined post to include medical education and anaesthetics.
The Anaesthesia element of the post will be supervised by an Anaesthetic Consultant and will include participation in a 1:8 on call rota on the hospital’s theatre on-call rota. The post would suit a trainee interested in anaesthesia, or a trainee who requires anaesthetic competencies for their parent specialty or one who has recently completed core training in anaesthetics. The appointee will work as part of the enthusiastic and dynamic anaesthesia team, which is a consultant-delivered multidisciplinary team for urgent, emergency and elective surgical procedures. The team offers fast, efficient care in anaesthesia, acute pain, maternity services and intensive care medicine.
The post-holder can expect to gain comprehensive experience in the assessment and management of a wide range of acute medical and surgical conditions in adults requiring resuscitation and stabilisation and patients requiring admission to intensive care. The department has 24/7 speciality doctor or registrar cover on-site; a Consultant is on-site from 8am to 9:30pm during weekdays (and then available on-call from home, to come in if necessary) and 8am to 8pm at weekends (and then available on-call from home, to come in if necessary). FY3-equivalent resident doctors in anaesthesia therefore receive close clinical support and supervision.
