Description:

ABOUT YOU

We’re looking for people who are motivated to solve business problems, so you’ll need a broad range of soft skills alongside sound engineering judgement. On the technical side, we’re looking to hire or develop engineers who think of themselves as developers first, and are as comfortable in VSCode as zsh and the AWS Console.

We’re happy to provide training, but you’ll need a keen interest in the full software engineering lifecycle, the ability to learn fast, and have some hands-on experience of one or two relevant areas such as:

  • Delivering right-sized technical solutions to business problems;
  • Collaborating on software and/or operations projects with words and whiteboards as well as tools, e.g. GitHub/Bitbucket, Slack/Teams, Confluence/Jira;
  • Responding rapidly and effectively to incidents in customer-facing systems, e.g. identifying an issue, diagnosing a root cause, running a blameless postmortem and making a change to prevent recurrence;
  • Building and maintaining Cloud Infrastructure as Code, e.g. AWS with Terraform or CloudFormation;
  • Identifying, assessing and patching or mitigating security vulnerabilities in in-house or third-party software and/or cloud configurations, e.g. using Snyk with Python+poetry or Prisma Cloud with CIS Benchmarks.

Responsibilities:

At Perspectum, engineers are more than coders – we solve business problems. As importantly as slinging Python and Terraform, we spend time at whiteboards with stakeholders, developing pragmatic solutions that bridge the gap between vision and practicality. The systems you work on will be used to deliver trials for new drug treatments, and clinical services that ease suffering and save lives.
The role is full of variety, with opportunities both to “go broad” across several disciplines and the whole product and service portfolio, and to “go deep” into specific problems, technologies and areas of the business.

As part of the Systems Engineering function, you’ll be involved in:

  • Shipping great software, from Medical Devices to Healthcare Platforms
  • Build, Release, CI/CD and Security engineering for new serverless-first projects and containerised ‘heritage’ services
  • A first-principles GitOps reimagining of our AWS and Azure cloud estate with Terraform and Spacelift
  • Building out scale-ready monitoring and operability
  • Helping delivery teams to Shift Left, Test in Prod, Elevate the Constraint and lots of other buzzword goodness
  • Orchestrating security and compliance testing and vulnerability management with a focus on automation
  • Continuously evolving the software, systems and practices that help us deliver quality at pace
  • Managing operational and security incidents as part of a 24/7 on-call team.

In other words, there’s plenty of Software Engineering, Security Engineering, Site Reliability Engineering and Platform Engineering to get stuck into. You’ll be helping us establish an environment and culture that is proactive and attuned to the emerging threats and challenges of the modern software development world.
