These will form part of our medical inpatient service for haemato-oncology patients. They are suitable for doctors who have completed Foundation Training and are looking to gain further medical experience before moving into core training in medicine or general practice.
Additionally, doctors who have completed core medical training and are considering a career in haemato-oncology, oncology or palliative medicine and doctors from overseas who are looking for roles in oncology within the NHS will be ideally suited to these positions.
The successful applicant will join a dedicated, specialist team, working with your consultants, SpRs, CNS and ward staff to ensure high quality patient care. They will take day to day responsibility for inpatients, take part in the acute oncology service (dependent on which rota is in place) and contribute to the Hospital at Night on-call rota caring for inpatients.
The Royal Marsden is a world leader in cancer research, treatment and education. Our mission is to continue to make a national and international contribution to cancer research and treatment, so that more people are cured and quality of life is improved for those with cancer. The Royal Marsden therefore plays an important role in championing change and improvement in cancer care through research and innovation, education and leading-edge treatment.
We have a reputation for delivering high quality performance. We were ranked joint first in the CQC national inpatient survey results, above average in national cancer patient experience survey and ranked first amongst teaching hospitals in the UK for our staff survey results.
Predominantly the Trust’s workload is from within the South West and West London Cancer Networks but, as a specialist cancer, the Trust has a high out-of-area referral rate for rare cancers, recurrent disease and treatment-related problems including international referrals. The Trust operates a shared care model with St George’s Healthcare NHS Trust for paediatric cancer.
Trainees with specific interest in haematology would have opportunity to learn basic morphology of blood films and to undertake bone marrow aspiration/trephine with supervision
