POSITION OVERVIEW

Giffen Consulting Ltd. is looking to add a Jr. Drafter to join our Engineering and Design team. This role consists of working with multi-discipline project teams. As a Jr. Drafter you would be working closely with a Sr. Designer to learn and ultimately be responsible for producing sketches, conceptual drawings and final drawings of buildings, electrical systems, mechanical / piping layout drawings, process plant layouts, piping isometric drawings, specifications and details, and bills of material, all while adhering to company procedures, engineering criteria, design standards and applicable codes.
This role will work within both 2D and 3D model environments and interface regularly with other disciplines, vendors, and customers.

QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE

  • Diploma in Engineering Technology or equivalent educational background
  • Registered, or eligible for registration, as an Applied Science Technologist in British Columbia or equivalent.
  • 1+ years of practical experience within an operational and / or consulting environment.
  • Experience creating 2D and 3D drawings, general arrangements, and isometrics. AutoCAD is essential.
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Ability to work as part of a project team in a multi-discipline environment.
  • Knowledge of industry standards, regulations, and codes.
  • Ability to present project design and concepts to clients.
  • Fluent with MS Office software.

Responsibilities:

  • Work closely with our engineering teams to develop drawings from preliminary concepts, sketches, engineering calculations, specification sheets, and other data.
  • Produce piping isometrics, mechanical, equipment and piping drawings in accordance with established guidelines and client specifications.
  • Produce sketches, drawings, and designs for buildings and other structures.
  • Develop plans and design layouts for electrical systems.
  • Prepare and assist in the release of drawings and documentation for projects.
  • Perform calculations and check and revise drawings.
  • Perform site visits / audits and measure existing infrastructure such as piping and tanks in support of the engineering team as required.
  • Assist in interpreting the plant PFDs, P&IDs, and plant battery limits and constraints.
  • Prepare 3D equipment modeling and 3D designs using AutoCAD Plant3D.
  • Create and maintain check sheets for all equipment as vendor data is received. Back model all changes as required.
  • Generate 2D drawings from the 3D model as required by the project.
  • Execute designs following the mechanical and layout design criteria developed specifically for the project as well as the defined regulations, codes, and standards.
  • Apply the design criteria throughout the evolution of the design.
  • Prepare and manage contract drawings, record keeping and other statistical work.
  • Ensure coordination with designers and engineers of other disciplines.
