We are looking for a bright, positive Junior Engineer (Civil/Engineering/ Geological/ Biosystems/ Agricultural/ Geo-Environmental) to join an industry leading team of solid waste experts. Tetra Tech is unique in that we have a dedicated solid waste management team that is specialized in and wholly focused on solid waste practices from planning including waste reduction and diversion, site investigations, infrastructure design and construction, environmental monitoring to regulatory compliance and site closure. This position will provide the opportunity to work with industry leaders on projects related to transfer stations, compost facilities and landfills. This is a full-time field position for our typically busy season May to November and primarily office based the remainder of the year for up to the first three to four years.

QUALIFICATIONS:
- The primary location for this role is Calgary, AB, however, we are open to applications across Western Canada.
- 0-3 years of relevant work experience.
- Minimum Bachelor’s Degree (or graduating in 2025) in Civil, Environmental, Geological, Biosystems Agricultural Engineering or Geo-Environmental.
- Eligible to register immediately with the Provincial Engineering Association.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills (oral and written).
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to producing high quality work products
- Travel will be required in this position. Candidates must be prepared to undertake field assignments in remote locations across Western and Northern Canada.
- Candidates must be physically capable of performing essential tasks, including (but not limited to) walking on uneven terrain and slopes, and carrying or lifting equipment up to 30 pounds for extended periods (e.g., 3-4 weeks at a time).
- Must possess a valid Class 5 driver’s license (or equivalent).
- Eligible for registration as an Engineer-In-Training.
- Must be legally entitled to work in Canada.
Responsibilities:
- Broad-based skill development to address the life cycle needs of solid waste projects: planning, design, construction, monitoring, and reporting.
- Conduct construction monitoring and work with contractors to ensure the job meets the engineer’s design and the client’s needs.
- Plan, conduct, and supervise geotechnical investigations with the goals of confirming site conditions and informing engineering designs.
- Plan and conduct environmental monitoring and sampling of groundwater, surface water, landfill gas and soils with the goal of informing potential regulatory compliance and any potential impacts from operations.
- Plan and conduct waste audits and waste composition studies to inform community diversion programs and reporting.
- Conduct interviews and research in support of waste planning and diversion projects.
- Work under the direction of engineers and operational experts to evaluate conditions for the design of landfills, transfer stations and compost facilities.
- Work under the direction of professional engineers to complete calculations, analyze data, develop drawings, and develop construction specifications.
- Support the team in preparing technical proposals including scopes of work, budget estimates and formal RFP submissions.
- Contribute to ongoing project management best practice implementation.
- Work not just in the solid waste realm, but gain a working understanding of other areas to function effectively with other internal practices including environmental, geotechnical and infrastructure.
- Compile and analyze field data and prepare detailed engineering and regulatory reports and recommendations.
- Communicate with clients, sub-consultants, and internal stakeholders.
- Build strong relationships with solid waste team members, technical specialists from other disciplines, contractors, and clients.
- Actively contribute to improving our projects and team by giving input and feedback to hazard assessments and safety procedures, completing peer reviews, contributing your knowledge and ideas to solve problems, and taking on new challenges as they arise.
