OVERVIEW
Thurber has an exciting opportunity for a Junior Environmental Engineer or Scientist to join our team in Calgary, Alberta.
Thurber provides geotechnical, environmental and construction materials engineering and testing services for a variety of industries across Canada. Our multidisciplinary expertise allows us to work on problems related to earth, the environment and construction materials. We solve problems in a wide variety of industries including transportation, building construction, municipal infrastructure, land development, dams and water resources, industrial development, mining, oil and gas, marine and environmental services.
As our Environmental Engineer or Scientist, you will work on varied projects and develop your skills with guidance and mentorship from our senior team.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Completion of a post-secondary program in Environmental Engineering, Environmental Science, Geology, Hydrogeology, or Civil / Geological Engineering with an environmental focus.
- Valid Class 5 Drivers license.
- Comfortable driving mid to full-sized pickup trucks in urban, rural, and construction environments.
- Comfortable working in a variety of environments, including local and remote construction sites.
- Proficiency with spoken and written English language is required.
DESIRABLE SKILLS
- Graduate Degree (Masters or higher)
- Demonstrated experience delivering technical site investigations and remediation solutions.
- Field experience.
Responsibilities:
- Support Phase I Environmental Site Assessments (ESA) and contaminated site investigations (i.e., Phase II ESAs) in soil, groundwater, surface water, and soil vapor.
- Work with other technical professionals and subcontractors to execute remedial options in the field.
- Assist in the development of detailed scopes of work and cost estimates to execute chosen remedial strategies and coordinate with subcontractors.
- Liaise with field staff and technical discipline leaders during project execution.
- Support the project team in the analysis and interpretation of project data and preparation of technical reports that meet regulatory requirements.
