Description:

The Stewardship and Renewal Group (SRG) is responsible for the ongoing care maintenance and execution of all activities associated with the Decommissioning of facilities that have been transferred to Field Decommissioning & Environmental Remediation (FD&ER) at Chalk River Laboratories (CRL). The Junior Supervisor will develop the skills and experiences necessary to competently supervise execution teams by directly supporting a qualified Job Supervisor.
The Junior Supervisor is accountable to their work group manager for supporting the Job Supervisor to ensure that facilities, resources, and support groups are operated and maintained in a manner that ensures compliance with Canadian Nuclear Laboratories (CNL’s) procedures and regulatory guidelines. They will reinforce management’s expectations for safe work practices, consequences for not following safe work practices and address performance and time management issues at the job sites. Under the general direction of a Job Supervisor, the Junior Supervisor shall also ensure that all paperwork, records, and procedures are completed and followed and that all safety rules are followed. Provide planning, oversight and support for routine and non-routine work activities to ensure the structures and operating systems compromising the Facility are maintained.

Responsibilities:

The Junior Supervisor’s duties include:

  • Assist with maintaining a Supervisor Log of the fieldwork daily notes;
  • Participate in the Integrated Work Control (IWC) process to support the development of work plans and strategies;
  • Review and Comment (R&C) on various documents;
  • Support the supervisor during accounting for staff in response to emergencies;
  • Respond to calls during non-business hours and resolve emergency calls;
  • Work with Trades, Projects, Radiation Protection, and other support groups to resolve problems and issues related to the decommissioning program and to maintain a safe path forward approach to work execution;
  • Support the supervisor to supervise and delegate work to team members (up to 20 staff);
  • Act as Job Lead for various activities in the field in multiple areas of any given job site;
  • Support the supervisor in owning and managing job sites, including perimeter barriers, signage, staff work practices, traffic and pedestrian control, and supporting the maintenance of the facility in a fully compliant state;
  • Support and/or lead Plan of Day (POD) meetings with teams, ensure pre- and post-job briefs are completed;
  • Support the development and implementation of training;
  • Lead and/or assist in conducting interviews, goal setting performance management, career development, disciplinary and promotion actions for assigned staff;
  • Support the supervisor in authorizing timesheets, leave approvals, vacation, and overtime;
  • Provide coaching as necessary; and
  • Ensure adherence to field work plans and permits including hold points and signoffs before advancement.
  • Other duties as required to mentor with and support the assigned Job Supervisor.
