This is an exciting opportunity to work within the WSP Land and Property Team to support the delivery of land acquisition, land access, formal consents, statutory orders and compensation agreements.
Our clients develop major highway, rail, energy and renewable infrastructure and projects all of which impact privately owned land. You will work as part of a team of Land specialists assisting in the liaison with landowners that may be affected by development, obtaining the appropriate land consents, gaining access and where necessary compensating them for the impact caused by the project.
As part of our Land and Property Team you will combine office, home and on-site working to support the delivery of land access and land acquisition projects through the identification of land ownership, consultation with landowners, undertaking property valuation, assessing and negotiating compensation, combining skills in GIS, data management and landowner engagement. This is an ideal opportunity for you to develop your career in land consultancy.
The role would ideally suit someone wanting to develop their skills in the land and property sector as they will gain experience across significant infrastructure projects in rail, road and the energy sectors and will support your professional development with a relevant professional organisation such as Royal Institute of Chartered Surveyors (RICS).

You will assist with and support clients to:

  • secure land rights for a broad range of infrastructure projects across the UK
  • preparing wayleave consent and licence documents
  • gain and understanding and utilise statutory powers and other available mechanisms to acquire land on behalf of WSP clients within the Electricity Sector, but also highway, rail, water, telecoms, gas and renewable energy sector
  • prepare and negotiate Heads of Terms to secure land for projects in timely fashion utilising the appropriate documentation
  • liaising with landowners, and their land agents, legal representatives, planning authorities, key stakeholders, contractors and clients
  • working with multi-disciplinary teams across a range of sectors and locations across the UK
  • A keen interest in learning the skills to negotiate with landowners and gaining the knowledge of the legal process required for the acquisition of wayleaves/easements.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, with the ability to work as part of a Team and build relationships with both internal and external stakeholders at all levels.
  • Ability to communicate effectively and have strong influencing and negotiating skills.
  • Awareness of infrastructure development schemes in particular the electricity, road, gas, rail and renewable energy sector.
  • Awareness of relevant legislation (Electricity Act 1989, Planning Act 2008 etc)
  • Knowledge of the rural environment and farming practices would be an advantage.
  • A full UK driving licence is required.
