POSITION DESCRIPTION
Project: Predicting the return visit and admission rates in the ED
INTERNSHIP DESCRIPTION:
During a patient’s visit to the emergency department, many important medical decisions are made: should the patient stay in the hospital, or will they need to return within 72 hours? Knowing these answers ahead of time, before the patient sees a doctor or nurse, can speed up their care in the emergency department and improve the quality of treatment they receive. The challenges of this project include dealing with multimodal text, numeric data, and time series; real-world challenges such as noisy and missing data; and incorporating expert knowledge in the complex clinical healthcare setting. Successful projects will benefit from existing paths to deploy models in the Emergency Department and provide meaningful real-world benefits.
The AI in Medicine (AIM) initiative team at SickKids is looking for a machine learning intern to join the team and work on these research questions.
