OVERVIEW

Thurber has an exciting opportunity for a Junior or Intermediate Construction Materials Engineer with Project Management Experience to join our team in British Columbia Operations. This role could work from Victoria, Vancouver, Kamloops, Prince George, Squamish, or Abbotford, depending on the successful candidate’s location.
Thurber provides geotechnical, environmental, and construction materials engineering and testing services for a variety of industries across Canada. Our multidisciplinary expertise allows us to work on problems related to earth, the environment, and construction materials. We solve problems in a wide variety of industries including transportation, building construction, municipal infrastructure, land development, dams and water resources, industrial development, mining, oil and gas, marine, and environmental services.
As our Intermediate Construction Materials Engineer, you will work on varied projects and develop your skills with guidance and mentorship from our senior team.

QUALIFICATIONS AND ASSETS

  • A degree in a Civil or Materials Engineering discipline with a heavy focus on construction materials (concrete, asphalt pavement, aggregates);
  • A post-graduate degree (master’s degree or higher) would be a strong asset;
  • Minimum 4 years of relevant engineering experience in Canada;
  • Eligibility for registration with the Engineers and Geoscientists British Columbia;
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills;
  • Strong analytical, project management and report writing skills;
  • Strong organizational and interpersonal skills;
  • Ability to work independently and cooperate with a team in various environments; and,
  • Valid class 5 driver’s license.

Responsibilities:

  • Manage and execute condition assessments, rehabilitation, and repair of existing infrastructure, including formulation of repair strategies for bridge structures, parkades, industrial, and other structures;
  • Mass concrete thermal mitigation design;
  • Non-destructive evaluation of reinforced concrete;
  • Service life and durability evaluation;
  • Manage the design and review of conventional and specialty concrete mixes;
  • Provide engineering and technical support for Quality Control (QC) and/or Quality Assurance (QA) testing and inspection services;
  • Manage and carry out field monitoring of construction works;
  • Prepare technical reports, including technical specifications, design reports, and writing proposals;
  • Work closely with our Field and Laboratory team to review analyses and reporting of laboratory and field testing of materials;
  • Supervise and mentor technicians and junior engineers;
  • Managing project schedules and budgets, and
  • Progressive interaction with clients.
