Here’s what you’ll do:

  • This position has ownership of the inventory and materials planning functions within both Carl Zeiss Vision Canada Inc. (lab) and Carl Zeiss Canada Ltd. (SSC).
  • The scope of the planning activities covers raw materials, consumables and non-inventory purchased materials.
  • The Planning function will support department experts in the planning, management and control of materials by providing advice, guidance and structure to the processes.
  • Control and distribution of the supplies across the lab.
  • Key Metrics of the Position: (e.g., Position Reporting, Revenue, Budget, etc.)

  • Primary Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Increase the profitability of the laboratory through safety, quality, delivery, and cost initiatives
  • Utilize a variety of tools to present, track, solve, maintain, and communicate KPI’s as they relate to the logistics, procurement and supply activities.
  • Inventory planning for raw materials and CZV & CZC consumables and purchased materials;
  • Work with Materials Associates and coordinate raw material replenishment;
  • Provide guidance and assistance on the management of all consumables including (but not limited to):
  • o Efficient and cost-effective purchasing practices.
  • o Effective planning and timing of purchase orders to avoid stock outs and rush shipments.
  • o Proper storage, control and fifo consumption of inventory.
  • o Assistance with vendor identification and Purchase Order placement.
  • Provide the team with reports providing visibility and to aid in the planning and management of current and future status of consumables.
  • Placing and controlling orders and inventory levels, ensuring that material availability is balanced with effective cost controls.
  • Management of storage space to be able to cycle inventory.
  • Manage the stock with the FIFO mentality when applicable, making sure to properly dispose of expired products.
  • Define storage and distribution points of each material as well as the minimum and maximum stock levels.
  • Evaluate and recommend suppliers.
  • Work in cooperation with purchasing department and global logistics
  • Coordinate demand and usage with different departments to ensure planning is aligned.
  • Lead the annual cycle counting activity.
  • Liaison with our logistics service providers on shipments to ensure on-time delivery;
  • Timely creation of purchase orders for non-inventory materials;
  • Follow up with vendors on open orders and communicate status to stakeholders;
  • Secondary Responsibilities:
  • Prepare and present data to all levels in the company on production results and forecasts
  • Monitor industry trends that impact lab operations and look for ways to continue to improve through improved cost and inventory control.
  • Perform other related duties and projects as assigned.
  • Experience and Education Requirements:
  • Proven experience with logistics, 3-5 years of experience is preferred;
  • A post secondary education in a relevant discipline is preferred;
  • Previous experience working with logistics service providers, preferably with high value shipments;
  • Experience preparing export documentation;
  • Purchasing training and/or experience;
  • Able to troubleshoot and find quick solutions for the situations that might be presented daily;
  • Good communication internally and with suppliers
  • Microsoft office knowledge, to manage spreadsheets, documents and presentations
  • Experience working in global matrixed organization with a business partner mindset
  • Ability to build lasting relationships and influence without authority
  • Self starter, with the ability to manage multiple priorities with tight timelines
  • Leadership competencies:
  • critical thinking, challenging appropriately, customer focus, conflict resolution, process management, drive for results
  • Ability to remain calm under pressure and deal with issues logically and within the company guidelines
