JUNIOR PROFESSIONAL ASSOCIATES – PROGRAM DESCRIPTION

The Junior Professionals Associate Program (JPA) offers an exceptional opportunity for recent graduates to embark on a professional journey, providing a three-year contract with valuable work experience within a diverse and dynamic environment and the potential of field work experience. The following are minimum requirements to be eligible for the JPA program:

  • Be 32 years of age or younger
  • Hold a bachelor’s degree
  • Be fluent in English

The JPA program at the World Bank is a highly competitive initiative. Responsibilities:

The JPA will focus on transport sector initiatives in the ECA Region and will be posted with the operational teams within the Transport Unit in that Region. She/he will work under the supervision of the Practice Manager and Transport Lead Specialist, and in close association with the Task Team Leaders of selected operational teams.

The duties of the JPA will include the following:

  • Contribute as a team member in a portion of the Bank’s transport portfolio the ECA transport team on sector technical issues ranging from general transport sector institutional setups and reforms to planning and impact evaluation analyses.
  • Prepare documentation for lending and technical assistance activities, with a focus on transport planning, policy and operations, transport modeling, and data analytics.
  • Participate with the teams in operational missions, supporting the identification, preparation or appraisal of potential new operations and the supervision of the implementation of a selected number of ongoing projects.
  • Provide analytical support in the preparation of presentations, documentation, proposals, notes, and other material that might be required for the dissemination of the unit activities or strategies. Analytical tasks cover transport policies (transport planning, transport system governance issues, transport asset management and financing, private sector participation, subsidy and tariff policies, demand management and NMT), the provision of multimodal and logistics and connectivity transport infrastructure and services, decarbonization and urban transport initiatives, financing options, asset management and operations, gender, impact evaluation, and management and delivery of infrastructure and services.
  • Support project teams in the preparation of analytical activities including transport modeling, financial and economic modeling, application process for resources from trust funds, the revision of outputs, and the monitoring or the activities of the pertinent consulting companies and individuals.
  • Assist in the preparation of different documents including Aide Memoire, Implementation Status Reports, Implementation Completion Reports, Concept Notes, and Appraisal Documents.
  • Participate in research activities in the areas of strategic planning of transport infrastructure, data analytics, and modeling aimed at sharing the knowledge generated by the unit’s operations and initiatives across the GP.
  • Participate in research and knowledge-sharing initiatives across the GP, as well as in the dialogue with client governments pertaining of decarbonization, logistic, data analytics, modeling, and strategic planning of transport infrastructure.
