DESCRIPTION

Profs. Viral Acharya and Shan Ge at NYU Stern’s Finance department are looking for a highly skilled and motivated individual to work as a full-time research assistant for one year. The start date is negotiable and can be as early as July 1, 2025.
The research scientist will receive mentoring, build relationships with faculty and fellow research scientists, gain valuable experience in seeing research projects develop, and be part of a stimulating intellectual environment. Exceptional contributions can lead to co-authorship at the discretion of the professors.

Research duties include, but are not limited to:

  • Performing statistical analyses and write up results
  • Data scraping from websites and other non-traditional data sources
  • Proofreading and providing feedback
  • Conducting literature reviews
  • Communicating about progress on a regular basis

In compliance with NYC’s Pay Transparency Act, the annual base salary range for this position is $50,440-$60,000. New York University considers factors such as (but not limited to) the specific grant funding and the terms of the research grant when extending an offer.

QUALIFICATIONS

An ideal candidate plans to apply to a PhD program in finance or economics in the future and is proficient in at least one of the following: SAS, Stata, R, Matlab, or Python. Prior training in economics or finance is, however, not a requirement. The candidate should have at least completed BA or equivalent or higher education by 2025 summer.
