Institute for Alpine Environment
The Eurac-Institute for Alpine Environment performs problem-oriented research of mountain environments in the fields of biodiversity and ecosystem functions, sustainability, landuse and climate change, and natures contribution to people.
We invite applications for a three-year junior researcher position in alpine vegetation ecology. The successful candidate will join an internal research project which aims at understanding the interconnection between plant diversity, productivity and soil carbon content in mountain grassland ecosystems. As climate change and land-use practices continue to impact these fragile environments, understanding these connections is crucial for effective conservation and management strategies. The study is embedded within two biodiversity and ecological monitoring programs will involve historic data analysis, field surveys and data collection across various mountain grassland sites in South Tyrol. By analyzing these parameters, we aim to better understand the interconnection between biodiversity grassland productivity and soil carbon storage in space and time. Additionally, the project will explore the implications of these findings for ecosystem resilience and carbon sequestration, contributing to broader discussions on climate change mitigation.
Tasks:
- Review of existing databases and research
- Conduct field surveys and assess basic grassland parameters such as plant diversity, productivity and/or soil carbon content
- Utilize adequate statistical software to analyze collected data and interpret results
- Collaboration and Communication: Work autonomously as well as with team members and communicate research findings through peer reviewed articles and scientific presentations, preferable within a PhD Program
