Description:

Applications are invited for the above Junior Specialist Doctor higher (JSDH) post (ST2 level) in the Department of Urology, Sandwell and West Birmingham Hospitals, to start from 15 December 2024 or as soon as possible thereafter. The post is suitable for someone who has completed core training and possibly some specialist training and wishes to pursue a career in urology. The post is 12 months Fixed Term initially with the option to extend by mutual agreement. The successful candidate should have siginficant relevent post graduate experience, of which a minimum of 12 months should have been in Urology. The successful candidate must also possess MRCS and be fully registered with the GMC. This post will not attract training recognition from the Postgraduate Dean, but the post holder will work alongside and receive similar training to those on the training programme.
You will be joining a dynamic and enthusiastic department consisting of nine consultants, 3 Specialist Registrars, 2 Specialty Doctor, 1 GP Trainee (ST1-2), 1 Junior Specialty Doctor Lower (ST1- 2) and 4 Foundation Year 1 doctors. Apart from radical pelvic urology cancer surgery, nephrectomies and complex reconstruction, a full range of urology procedures are undertaken. The unit takes pride in providing comprehensive stone service with onsite lithotripter. All urology inpatient activity takes place at our brand new Midlands Metropolitan University hospital and day case and 23 hours surgery is based at Birmingham Treatment Centre, part of City Health Campus. Outpatient clinics take place on both the City (Birmingham treatment centre) and Sandwell health campuses. The successful candidate will be required to participate in clinics, theatre and endoscopy sessions and 1 in 6 on call as per share in part time post. The department offers audit, research, quality improvement activities and expect juniors to have full participation in multidisciplinary and uro-radiology meetings.
