Job Description
This role is an important part of Smith Detection’s Global Training and Technical Documentation team. The person in this position will be early in their career and will have a passion for learning new things and self-development. They will work with various people and teams within the company and with external Stakeholders, regularly interacting with different departments across Smiths Detection worldwide. The role requires supporting the delivery of both internal and external Training Needs Analysis (TNA) and having good skills in analysing information and building relationships with customers.
This position supports the team responsible for Training Analysis, Design, and online learning. The main goal is to build knowledge an confidence in conducting TNA in a way that is both adaptable and thorough. The person in this role will need to show strong communication skills and some experience in the relevant field, working effectively in a diverse environment. They will also be responsible for supporting in the use standard training methods, such as the Defence Systems Approach to Training (DSAT) or ADDIE models, and following project management guidelines. Additionally, the role will support in other areas of the business, such as in the marketing and communication of the TNA strategy, supporting teams identifying how best to serve learners, and/or developing other areas as they progress their career.
Duties & Responsibilities
The key responsibilities are as follows –
- Support with the creation of content for TNA marketing material to continue to market and grow the department
- Support Senior Training Consultants with the conduct of TNAs both internally and externally and for a range of sectors
- Conduct Stakeholder management activities, including co-ordinating training analysis workshops, engagements and attending stakeholder meetings.
- Write TNA project communications, including project emails, academy newsletters and any other identified as required
- Conduct research tasks and data gathering as required
- Can contribute towards the identification of the learning needs of internal employee groups and create learning pathways to fulfil theses needs through the conduct of role analysis
- Reviews TNA reports for a range of internal and external customers
- Can ask effective questions to gather qualitative information on training needs
- Can develop questionnaires to collect reliable and valid quantitative data
- Is building cultural awareness knowledge to identify differences the cultures may have within a global organisation
- Supports with the creation of communication plans to share the outputs of internal TNAs across the global organisation, factoring in cultural nuances where appropriate
- Works with the Smiths Detection Training Delivery and Online Training teams to co-ordinate outputs from the TNA that require training design activity
- Independently familiarises themselves with TNA and training delivery research and developments, both online and in-classroom
- Ensures that Smiths Detection remains an innovative and impactful training department by keeping up to date with changes to training options for all Smiths Detection equipment
- Attends TNA project meetings both within the department and across other internal and external stakeholders, take notes and distributes action lists
- Is developing their ability to provide training consultancy services to clients, with support from additional training colleagues, project managers and Senior Management teams
- Represents Smiths Detection and where appropriate, our customers, in a professional manner, upholding all the Smiths values and leadership behaviours
- Fulfils any administrative requirements, ensuring that all necessary internal control systems are maintained
- Demonstrates flexibility to travel to customer’s sites to perform duties and maintains relationships with the customer, both locally and internationally
- Reviews and provides Quality Assurance on TNA outputs of other Training Analysts
- Participates in the processing of tenders including the writing of bids and scoping of customer requirements from tender documentation
- Works with the Training Quality Team, inline with the Quality Framework to gather and assess training data post-training course delivery to identify themes, trends and improvements required to training material
- Assists with the completion of External Validation activity to ensure the success of the TNA 6-months post training delivery
The Individual
The ideal candidate will have the following skills/experience –
- A formal qualification in the conduct of TNA is desirable, but not essential
- A Higher-level qualification in Training Management, Training Analysis, Psychology, Human Factors or related HR function
- Willing to work towards additional professional development targets
- You have exceptional standards of written English
- You demonstrate significant ability to own your own personal development plan
- You have a significant level of attention to detail and are passionate about developing and learning new skills
- You demonstrate a willingness to gain knowledge of JSP 822
- You have experience in the production and/or quality assurance of written reports
- You are proficient in MS Office applications to include Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, Excel and Outlook
- You can handle stressful situations and adapt to changing priorities
- You are driven and hard working, and remain motivated when working remotely
- The ability and motivation to persistently pursue and achieve effective results which drive the business forward
- The ability to make effective, timely decisions in relation to own work activities, and with support where required
