Description:

BUSINESS TITLE: KAIARATAKI

Position Purpose To provide advice and coordination for our approach to Tikanga Māori
within Student Registry which aligns to the overall aspirations for the Office
of Students and Global Engagement (SaGE). In line with the University’s
Te Tiriti-led commitment, this is a key strategic objective, but one in which
we will strive for across the portfolio. This role includes working alongside
the Kaiarataki Matua Senior Advisor Māori (SaGE) to provide oversight and
application of professional development in Te Reo me ōna Tikanga through
thoughtful and intentional Māori-led pedagogy, and further enhancing the
contribution of the portfolio to our Te Tiriti o Waitangi strategies.

ACCOUNTABILITIES

Advisory Services Provide guidance and advice across all Student Registry team’s as it
relates to Tikanga Māori and in order to genuinely embrace the ‘lived’
experience of Te Tiriti o Waitangi.
To provide guidance and advice on Tikanga Māori, with a focus on
understanding its purpose, benefits, and place within the working
environment.
To work with the Kaiarataki Matua Senior Advisor Māori to assist in
developing a culture within SaGE that gives meaningful and authentic
expression to the University’s Te Tiriti o Waitangi strategic initiatives.

flexible. Aiming to be an expert in your area whilst having an
overarching understanding across Student Registry and a willingness to
assist in any, and all areas (SaGE), as required.

Ongoing improvement To work with Student Registry to ensure they have appropriate operating
systems and processes in place that recognise the benefits of being Te
Tiriti-led.

To work with the Kaiarataki Matua Senior Advisor Māori on staff
development opportunities that will enhance the teams approach to
Tikanga Māori.
Contribute and support on-going reviews and implementation of Student
Registry processes, to maximise efficiency and effectiveness.
Ensure you are proactive in building and remaining current in your
knowledge (regulations, policies, procedures, system opportunities etc)
and seek ways to improve our support of students.
Keep informed of current developments in Education locally and
globally, including emerging trends and current issues affecting
Massey University
Take personal pride in delivering timely, accurate and quality outcomes
while meeting workload requirements, sharing knowledge and supporting
others across the team where and when possible.

Functional Tikanga Māori
Accountabilities
Present and facilitate cultural capability training with staff to enhance the
knowledge of Te Ao Māori, Mātauranga Māori, Te Reo Māori me ōna
Tikanga;
Advise, coordinate and administer the delivery of this training as directed

by the Kaiarataki Matua Senior Advisor Māori;

  • Advise the team on specialist requirements, as appropriate;
  • Undertake continuing personal professional development.

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE

Qualifications: A relevant tertiary qualification at bachelor’s degree level or above is
preferred but not essential
Te Reo Māori and demonstrable experience in Tikanga Māori.
Experience: • Prior experience in advice and/or leading Tikanga Māori delivery

within a tertiary setting or other educational settings;

  • Proven ability to uphold the integrity of Tikanga Māori across a range

of situations and settings;

  • Ability to organise and lead Tikanga Māori arrangements across a

range of settings including hui, campus events and ceremonies;

  • Demonstrates a capacity for providing advice, and a proven record of

accomplishment of developing strong and effective relationships in

the achievement of strategic outcomes;

  • Experience of working in a customer-focused role, often working

under pressure and to tight deadlines;

  • The ability to present to, and to communicate with a range of

audiences;

  • Proven experience working as part of a highly motivated team and

gaining the respect of peers and stakeholders;

  • Experience in strategic planning and implementation, operational

execution and reporting;

  • Proven ability to establish and develop effective relationships with

external groups and internal stakeholders would be an advantage;

  • In depth understanding of the University regulatory, academic,

financial and strategic context.
