Description:

ABOUT US

Te Wānanga o Aotearoa (TWoA) is New Zealand’s second largest tertiary institution and the world’s largest indigenous tertiary educator, and we’ve been providing transformational education opportunities to New Zealanders for nearly 40 years. Our vision of ‘Whānau transformation through education’ drives our commitment to being at the forefront of tertiary education underpinned by Māori culture and values.

Our kaimahi (employees) enjoy a whānau-friendly workplace where everyone is encouraged to be themselves. In return for their contribution, we offer kaimahi a range of benefits including:

  • Free health and life insurance for permanent employees.
  • Four extra annual leave days to celebrate Matariki and the Christmas/New Year season.
  • Special leave available for sporting or cultural events.
  • Tau Ora programmes that encourage wellbeing and inclusion.
  • Free car parking.
  • Flexible work hours and work-from-home options.

Responsibilities:

We are currently seeking a Kaihāpai Rangahau Matua on a fixed term (until July 2025), part-time (20 hours per week). Ideally this role would be based in Tāmaki Makaurau, but we are open to applicants from other locations across Aotearoa.
As the Kaihāpai Rangahau Matua you will provide high-level, specific subject matter expertise to support Rangahau projects led by Dr Joni Angeli-Gordon. You will work closely with Dr Angeli-Gordon to support and contribute to various projects aimed at exploring Māori culture, history, language, and societal issues. The role requires a deep understanding and appreciation of Māori perspectives, values, and protocols. The Senior Associate Research Fellow will assist in conducting literature reviews, collecting and analyzing data, and providing cultural insights to ensure the research is conducted in a culturally sensitive and appropriate manner.
This position would suit an experienced kairangahau who’s worked in the tertiary education sector. You’ll bring to the role fluency in te reo, both written and spoken, and a thorough understanding of te ao Māori. You’re also a strong relationship builder with a communication style and approach that enables you to establish rapport and credibility quickly.
