InnovOak School is Kitchener-Waterloo’s newest growing private school. As an education start-up, we pride ourselves on providing a strong academic program that gives students the tools and skills they need to succeed, graduate, and excel in all areas of adult life.
Using our extensive experience in elementary and secondary education, we create a traditional school setting that adapts nimbly to a changing future. Located in Kitchener, Ontario, InnovOak is a Ministry Inspected Private School offering grades JK-12 and granting both the OSSD and our own ISHGD.
This role is for a new classroom that we are looking to create due to increasing enrolment. We are looking for someone who loves to teach, has high standards, is creative, and passionate about making sure students are well-prepared for their future.

TEACHING REQUIREMENTS:

  • Understand where students are developmentally and make the “hard” tasks as a student engaging and fun.
  • Develop perseverance, growth mindset, creativity, and a strong love of learning.
  • Bring passion and inspiration to learning and make it fun for students.
  • Create a dynamic, warm, and nurturing classroom environment.
  • Develop sound learning opportunities that develop the whole child, ensuring that activities are focused, and that provocations are teacher-directed and provide students not only what interests them, but what propels their learning forward.
  • Develop strong reading, writing, and numeracy skills based on sound planning and engaging teaching delivery.
  • Use the best ideas from the various programs and in conjunction with our Kindergarten lead to teach skill development (guided reading, guided writing, number sense, etc.) as explicit teaching.
  • Be adaptable and flexible to manage daily learning with a small group of students, attending to their personal, social, and academic development.
  • Provide each student with one-to-one attention through mentoring, teaching, guiding, conferencing, check-ins, and support to ensure individualized learning.
  • Support the development of appropriate learning skills focused on applying InnovOak Schools Core Proficiency Skills (Our 12 Learning Skills)
  • Meticulously complete all teacher administrative tasks including daily lesson planning, taking and keeping attendance, completing timely provincial report cards, and any other requirements as directed by the Principal.
  • Be prepared to develop students who leave SK already meeting the Grade 1 Ontario Curriculum
  • Build relationships with students and parents, being focused on developing each child to their potential
  • Able to work collaboratively with other teachers and staff, who are passionate and skilled teachers that care about kids

PRIOR EDUCATION, SKILLS, AND EXPERIENCES:

  • An education-related university degree
  • If you are internationally trained, we ask that you have prior experience in an Ontario school setting (private or public)
  • Must be able to teach in person in Kitchener-Waterloo.
  • Polished English language oral communication skills.
  • A Bachelor of Education preferred (we will strongly consider pre-service teacher candidates looking to begin their career with us).
  • OCT registration preferred.
  • Ontario Elementary School experience (or teaching placements) a strong plus.
  • Experience or strong understanding with The Science of Reading, Heggerty, or UFLI preferred
  • Expereince or strong understanding of Singapore Math or Montessori Math principles is highly preferred
  • Experience with establishing a new classroom or program is a plus.
