Description:

EDUCATION/CERTIFICATIONS:

· High school diploma or equivalent.
· Food Safe 1 basic required.
· First Aid and Non-Violent Crisis Training an asset.

EXPERIENCE:

· Preference given to those who have prior kitchen/restaurant helper experience.

REQUIRED SKILLS/KNOWLEDGE:

· Excellent customer/donor service ethics including the ability to deal with the public in a friendly, non-judgmental manner.
· A proven ability to work in a team setting as well as a willingness to take personal initiatives.
· Ability to stand for long periods of time.
· The ability to adapt to change and interruptions to a normal work routine, and work in a fast-paced environment.
· Adaptability to change and frequent interruptions.
· Ability to lift more up to 30 pounds
· Agreeable to a flexible, non-routine schedule.
· The ability to maintain confidentiality.

Responsibilities:

POSITION PURPOSE SUMMARY:

Every position contributes to the spiritual and social mission of The Salvation Army. The Kitchen Helper assists the cook in preparing meals and assists in the operations of collecting and processing donations to the Williams Lake Salvation Army, practicing good stewardship of resources.

BASIC FUNCTIONS/RESPONSIBILITIES:

· Willingness to work within the mission, vision & values of The Salvation Army.
· Assists in preparing meals, including dietary meals as directed by the kitchen lead.
· Follows work practices to ensure the efficient delivery of food services.
· Follows Foodbank BC and Food Safe policy on the use of donated foods.
· Cleans the kitchen and kitchen equipment as assigned.
· Washes dishes throughout the day to maintain cleanliness and equipment.
· Keeps simple records and completes incident reports as necessary.
· Works with volunteers in a positive and respectful manner.
· Processes donated items: unloading, sorting, rotating stock.
· Creates and maintain donor/donation records and reports statistics.
· Replenishes inventory levels based on supervisor’s directions.
· Works with team members in building safety: including light cleaning and reporting needed maintenance to supervisor; assists in general cleanup, snow removal, garbage, and compost removal.
· Perform other related duties as assigned.
