WHO YOU’LL WORK WITH
You’ll be based in our Dusseldorf office as part of the Energy Solutions team, working internationally with global clients. Energy Solutions is part of McKinsey’s Global Energy & Materials practice, and you will also work closely with leaders of our McKinsey’s Advanced Industries practice.
Energy Solutions, a specialist market intelligence unit, provides analysis, insights and support across the entire energy value chain, including oil & natural gas, refining and power & renewables. Our dedicated specialists use proprietary tools and methodologies and a data-driven approach. By working closely with our Global Energy & Materials consulting practice and leveraging McKinsey’s wider expertise network, our research and analysis provide unique knowledge.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Ability to communicate complex ideas effectively, both verbally and in writing, in English and German
- Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment and effectively with people at all levels in an organization
- Proven record of leadership in a work setting and/or through extracurricular activities
- Ambition to work in a fast-paced, result-oriented team with steep learning curve and strong commitment to coaching and development
- Initial experience in energy and industrial-related topics, with excitement for energy transition and electrification trends
- Advanced degree in management, engineering, economics or other discipline with a quantitative focus
Responsibilities:
As a Knowledge Analyst at McKinsey Energy Solutions within our Industrial Electrification team, you will help shape our market intelligence proprietary knowledge on global value pools for electrification-enabling assets at component level. These assets include solar, wind, heat pumps, EVCI, battery systems, transmission & distribution grid equipment, electrolyzers, and more.
In this role, you will collaborate closely with experts from our Energy, Sustainability, and Advanced Industries practices. You will integrate macroeconomic, technological, and policy trends with McKinsey’s insights on industry-level and overall energy system development. Using these insights, you will help shape and expand our models on component-level value pools and apply them to client projects for asset-backed consulting.
Daily problem solving will be a key part of your job. You will work in partnership with your manager, the leadership of Energy Solutions, our Platform for Industrial Electrification and colleagues across the firm. Over time, you will have the opportunity to contribute to the strategic direction these topics and help develop new and more detailed projections. You will deepen your expertise on global energy markets and increasingly become the go-to-person in your content area, assisting colleagues and clients. This also includes longer-term client-serving projects.
