POSITION DESCRIPTION
We are seeking a highly qualified candidate for a Knowledge Translation Specialist position at the Child Health Evaluative Sciences (CHES) program in the Research Institute at the Hospital for Sick Children in Toronto, Canada. The candidate will work closely with the Drs. Peter Gill and Sanjay Mahant, Paediatricians and Scientists, Child Health Evaluative Sciences, SickKids Research Institute, and Co-Founders of the Canadian Paediatric Inpatient Research Network (PIRN - https://www.pirncanada.com/). The candidate will be embedded within a team that conducts outcomes-based research focused on the care of hospitalized children. This is a full-time role (1.0 FTE, 35 hours/week) beginning with a one-year contract.
The work will focus on developing an integrated knowledge translation (KT) and implementation science strategy for the Paediatric Inpatient Research Network. As defined by CIHR, iKT is an approach to doing research that applies the principles of knowledge translation to the entire research process. Implementation science is the scientific study of methods and strategies that facilitate the uptake of evidence-based practice and research into regular use. PIRN is Canada’s national network focused on generating evidence to improve the care and outcomes of hospitalized children in general pediatric inpatient settings. The research that PIRN conducts informs clinical practice on the inpatient unit (e.g. diagnosis, treatment, prognosis questions), how to best implement evidence into practice (e.g. implementation science) and implementation (e.g. quality improvement). There is also strong patient partner engagement in PIRN research and KT.
The candidate will lead several outputs, including (1) developing an integrated KT approach and template for PIRN studies that can be used in future grants and studies (2) developing a general implementation science approach for PIRN, that includes understanding barriers and facilitators to implementing evidence, implementation mapping to evidence based strategies, and then approaches to designing hybrid-effectiveness trials in the inpatient setting and (3) developing a conceptual model of PIRN as an integrated, patient-oriented, research network integrated within a paediatric learning health system. It is expected that this work will lead to scholarly papers.
