Description:

OVERVIEW:

Responsible for performing the technical and clerical duties requiring professional judgment in the inpatient pharmacy distribution system. Responsible for sterile compounding of hazardous and non-hazardous preparations using the principles of aseptic technique. Technical duties include but are not limited to drug inventory management, drug preparation and distribution, and regulatory compliance. Responsible for completing and delegating regulatory tasks, directing technician workflow, triaging pharmacy issues not requiring the judgement of the technician or pharmacist coordinators, and other duties as assigned. Must demonstrate flexibility to cover open shifts on days and evenings to ensure appropriate staffing levels at all times. Serves as the lead trainer for new hires and students. All competencies required for Pharmacy Technician Level 3 must be completed successfully within 6 months of start date and at annual evaluations thereafter.
Qualifications:Education, Experience, and Training:

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, AND TRAINING:

  1. Must meet all requirements of a Pharmacy Technician Level 1, including required competencies

2. IN ADDITION, ONE OF THE FOLLOWING REQUIREMENTS MUST BE MET:

a. 12 months of Shands Pharmacy Technician experience
b. 6 months of Shands Pharmacy Technician experience and one of the following:
i. Two years hospital/institutional pharmacy experience
ii. Three years retail pharmacy experience
3. Demonstrate the ability to work independently
4. Demonstrate the ability to contribute to effective working relationships
5. Experience managing projects preferred
6. Experience with Microsoft Office Suite preferred

JOB KNOWLEDGE:

  1. Must know how to operate telecommunications equipment, calculator, and computer workstation
    2.Must demonstrate proficiency with pharmaceutical calculations
    Additional Requirement: As a condition of employment within the Pharmacy Services Department of Shands Hospital, all employees must be accessible by telephone. This requires each employee to provide and maintain a valid telephone number with the department Staff Assistant, in order for the department to reach them in the event of hospital need and/or emergency.
