REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • HS Diploma or equivalent
  • Clerical and computer skills

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Previous experience in laboratory specimen processing and phlebotomy.

Responsibilities:

  • Performs computer and clerical duties; related to specimen processing and referral lab testing; filing, scanning reports, registering patients, assists with phlebotomy, audit trails and ordering tests as needed.
  • Properly prepares samples for lab testing and tracks all specimens sent to referral labs.
  • Reviews all referral lab invoices and regularly performs and tracks a monthly audit of referral labs.
  • Assists is setting up new CDM numbers for newly requested referral tests and correctly utilizes the gatekeeper policy.
  • Creates manual charges until CDM numbers are generated.
  • Works to resolve ordering and billing problems for referral lab testing.
  • Direct observations of routine patient tests performance, including, as applicable, patient identification and preparation; and specimen collection, handling, processing and testing.
  • Direct observation of performance of instrument maintenance and function checks.
  • Accurately reports patient results in the Laboratory Information System.
  • Performs quality control procedures to ensure accuracy of test results.
  • Analyzes patient samples according to approved standards of testing.
  • Maintains equipment to ensure accurate, consistent results in the performance of tests.
  • Develops and assists in writing policies, procedures and training documents for specimen processing.
  • Follow standards of safety dictated by the laboratory, the hospital and regulatory agencies.
  • Contributes to the efficient operation of the laboratory.
  • Participates in continuing education programs for the upgrade of educational experience.
  • Performs other duties as assigned by laboratory leadership
