SUMMARY:
A part-time position is open for a Lab Assistant I in the Degenerative Diseases Program in the Center for Genetic Disorders and Aging Research at the Sanford Burnham Prebys Medical Discovery Institute (SBP). The candidate will be involved in projects related to the identification of molecular mechanisms of risk genes associated to Alzheimer’s Disease and neurodegenerative diseases. The candidate will be expected to perform laboratory maintenance tasks including, but not limited to buffer preparation, stocking, glass wash, autoclaving and helping maintain lab organization. The potential exists to learn basic lab techniques such as nucleic acid isolation and purification, cloning, PCR, protein purification and cell culture as time, interest and ability permit. Additionally, the candidate is encouraged to attend lab meetings and seminars if schedule allows.
EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE:
- Requires a high school diploma and the candidate be pursuing a bachelor’s degree in biological science. Ongoing or completed coursework in Cell Biology, Molecular Biology, Biochemistry and Biochemical Techniques are a plus. Please list relevant college courses taken on resume.
- Prior wet lab/bench research experience is strongly recommended.

- Strong written and oral communication.
- Good documentation and data entry skills.

Responsibilities:
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Under specific direction, the candidate will perform routine laboratory tasks, which may include:
- Preparation of laboratory supplies and equipment, and other related duties as assigned.
- Assists teams and core staff with all aspects of laboratory projects and experiments using standard laboratory techniques under supervision.
- Assist with autoclaving, media/buffer preparations, stocking and maintenance of inventory/supplies,
- Be responsible, organized, and possess strong attention to detail
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- This position does not have any supervisory responsibilities.
