The UC Irvine School of Pharmacy & Pharmaceutical Sciences is the first public pharmacy school in the Los Angeles-Orange County region. Its faculty and programs span a continuum from discovery, development, and delivery of new drugs, devices, and diagnostics all the way to optimizing medication therapy in patients and patient populations. The school offers a BS in Pharmaceutical Sciences, MS in Pharmacology, PhD in Pharmacological Sciences, and Doctor of Pharmacy (PharmD.) As part of the Susan & Henry Samueli College of Health Sciences, we actively collaborate with schools and programs in medicine, nursing, and population, public health, and the Susan Samueli Integrative Health Institute to educate, train, and mentor the next generation of pharmaceutical scientists and clinical pharmacists. Responsibilities:
The Atena Zahedi lab in the Department of Clinical Pharmacy Practice invites applications for an open Lab Assistant position. Our lab is focused on using innovative research approaches to advance translational research in neurodegenerative diseases, including Alzheimer’s disease, Parkinson’s disease, ALS, and Huntington’s disease. We leverage human genetics, mitochondria-based therapeutics, and human iPSC-based models to uncover disease mechanisms and new therapeutic strategies.
Under the direction and general supervision of the Principal Investigator, the Lab Assistant will work in collaboration with other lab members to conduct research using knowledge in biomedical sciences - biochemistry, neurobiology, cell biology, and/or molecular genetics. Design, organize, and conduct specialized experiments using established scientific protocols and procedures. The Lab Assistant will compile the research results which will be reviewed and approved by the Principal Investigator.
The primary focus of our research is to elucidate the pathophysiology of genetic diseases, especially neurodegenerative disorders, by working with human samples and human stem cell models. Our integrated approach combines wet and dry lab methods, leveraging cell systems, transgenic models, and computational biology, to identify and validate potential therapeutic targets.
