JOB SUMMARY:
AstraZeneca is seeking a skilled and dedicated Lab Manager to join our Biopharmaceutical Development team within Analytical Sciences. If so, this Lab Manager/Scientist role is for you. The successful candidate will be responsible for managing laboratory operations, ensuring the efficient and effective conduct of research and development activities. You will provide leadership to the lab team and ensure compliance with all safety and regulatory standards. This role will require you to be on site for 5 days per week.
SUMMARY OF THE GROUP:
In the Analytical Sciences – Physicochemical Development teams we enable the advancement of AZ’s biologics and new modalities portfolio using industry-leading analytical technologies. We are responsible for establishing platform methodologies and analytical strategies capable of supporting the pharmaceutical development of diversified modalities, that will become life-changing medicines.
REQUIRED SKILLS/QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelor’s degree in a relevant scientific discipline (e.g., Chemistry, Biology, Biochemistry) or equivalent experience.
- General understanding of analytical sciences and biopharmaceutical development processes.
- Excellent leadership, communication, and organizational skills.
- Demonstrated ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
DESIRED SKILLS/QUALIFICATIONS:
- Proven experience in laboratory management within the pharmaceutical or biopharmaceutical industry.
- Proficiency in laboratory management software and tools.
- Basic understanding of operation/maintenance of HPLC and/or Mass Spectrometry instruments
Responsibilities:
- Oversee the day-to-day operations of the laboratory, ensuring a safe and productive working environment.
- Ensure compliance with all health, safety, and environmental regulations and company policies.
- Maintain laboratory equipment, liaising with external vendors or partners where needed, ensuring it is properly calibrated and serviced.
- Manage laboratory inventory.
- Ensure all work is performed in line with appropriate SHE standards and support resolution of SHE actions to maintain high safety standards in laboratory environment.
- Supporting GLS compliance activities as required and acting as system owner for systems as required.
- Dealing with all emergency breakdown of lab equipment including fridges/freezers. This would include the transfer of critical temperature standards/samples to appropriate alternative storage.
- Assisting CAPEX rep and team members in overseeing all stages of CAPEX process and ensure successful installation and onboarding.
- Foster a culture of continuous improvement and innovation within the laboratory.
