Description:
Position Summary: Assist biological scientists and chemical and bioprocessing engineers in a laboratory setting. Set up, operate, and maintain laboratory instruments and equipment, monitor experiments, make observations, and calculate and record results. Will handle a variety of biological and chemical substances including human and animal blood, organic and inorganic solvents, and related materials. Participate in the research, development, and manufacturing of biological materials. Support all applicable regulations including, but not limited to ISO and OSHA requirements. Work and participate in a team environment where shared responsibilities, problem solving, achieving team goals, and continuous improvement of the production processes are basic expectations. Carry out activities according to written procedures, record experimental and manufacturing data, and keep detailed logs of all work-related activities to ensure compliance with set ISO standards. Communicate orally and in written details of work-related activities.
EDUCATION:
Bachelor’s degree in any of the following life science majors: Biology, Chemistry, Biochemistry, Biotechnology, Bioengineering, etc. is preferred and at least two years of experience working in a laboratory setting. In lieu of a bachelor’s degree in a scientific field, 5 years of experience working in a laboratory setting is preferred.
EXPERIENCE:
Familiarity with laboratory settings and skills required to effectively work in a laboratory environment including buffer preparation, working with laboratory data and calculations, working with common laboratory tools including pipettes, glassware, and laboratory equipment, etc. Experience as an independent researcher is also preferred. Responsibilities:
- Perform essential lab duties including buffer preparation for experimental and manufacturing purposes, washing and autoclaving glassware, ordering and stocking supplies, maintaining equipment and other supporting tasks as needed.
- Carry out standard bioprocessing methods to produce biological materials using chromatography equipment and various chemical methods.
- Conduct standardized biological, microbiological or biochemical tests and laboratory analyses including electrophoresis, protein analysis, and a variety of immunoassays including but not limited to HPLC, ELISA, complement assays, etc. to evaluate the quantity or quality of chemical and biological materials and products.
- Assist with and/or conduct independent research activities alongside or under the guidance of current staff scientists and engineers including material sourcing, experimental design, data analysis, report preparation, new product demonstrations, etc.
- Assist with providing technical support and services for scientists and professionals working in fields such as human and veterinary medicine, pharmaceuticals, vaccine development, basic research, biology, chemistry and related industries.
