We are currently looking for a full-time Laboratory Technician to join our Cell Expression R&D team in Cambridge to support with ongoing lab operations and scientific research activities. This role involves hands-on support in maintaining and running experiments, preparing materials and assisting in data collection across various projects, ensuring the lab continues to operate effectively both within and outside of regular business hours (Saturdays & Sundays). You will be supporting projects to create novel CHO (Chinese hamster ovary) cell lines and gene expression platforms with enhanced performance characteristics.
This is a great opportunity to join an innovative and impactful team with a diverse range of skills and experience across a range of fields including cell and molecular biology, mammalian cell culture, recombinant protein expression, protein engineering, and cell engineering.
In line with Lonza’s procedures a training plan will be put in place and implemented when the candidate joins, with the expectation that the person will be able to begin to effectively support activities in cell culture and molecular biology within 2 months of arriving at Lonza.
KEY REQUIREMENTS:
- BSc/MSc Degree in Life Sciences / Science/ Molecular Biology
- Practical experience within R&D in an industrial/academic settings
- A good technical background in molecular biology, and mammalian cell culture techniques – experience with CHO suspension cultures is advantageous
- Key cell culture techniques desired include mammalian cell culture, stable transfection & Fed-Batch (Ambr15).
- A proactive attitude to working and solving challenging problems
Responsibilities:
- Organise and manage the weekend lab work schedules, ensuring that all planned tasks are completed accurately and documented thoroughly with minimal supervision.
- Support with routine tissue culture work including cell revival, subculture and cryopreservation
- Support with operating the small-scale bioreactors (Ambr15) and perform analytical procedures as required by the project.
- Collate, analyse, evaluate and sign-off data to produce good quality information and traceable records under the direction of the project lead.
- Working as a team player and working with a high degree of flexibility
