JOB SUMMARY:

Oldcastle Infrastructure delivers innovative solutions to improve water quality and protect the environment. We currently have an opportunity for a Lab Technician to participate in industrial research and the development of water treatment equipment on every scale from the lab bench to full size equipment. The ideal candidate in this entry-level position will work with the staff engineers to conduct experiments in the lab and ensure that equipment is safe to operate and properly calibrated.

JOB REQUIREMENTS:

  • Post-secondary laboratory science technologist diploma or equivalent.
  • Previous laboratory experience or coursework in analytical chemistry and/or hydraulics laboratory. Experience with inductively coupled plasma (ICP) analysis is an asset.
  • Ability to work with general tools and build prototypes with minimal supervision
  • General knowledge of lifting and loading techniques
  • Familiarity with laboratory equipment and instrumentation including troubleshooting and maintenance.
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to follow standard operating procedures (SOPs) and safety guidelines.
  • Ability to stand for long periods of time with regular stretch breaks
  • Ability to lift up to 23 kg (50 lbs)
  • Excellent organizational time management and multitasking abilities.
  • Effective communication skills both verbal and written.
  • Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively in a team environment.
  • Willingness to learn new techniques and adapt to changing priorities and tasks.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (i.e. Outlook Word Excel etc.).

Responsibilities:

  • Building laboratory prototype models for testing.
  • Perform routine laboratory tests and analyses using various analytical instruments and techniques including but not limited to spectrophotometry colorimetry and titration.
  • Prepare and standardize chemical solutions reagents and samples according to established protocols.
  • Maintain accurate records of experimental data observations and results.
  • Assist in the calibration troubleshooting and maintenance of laboratory equipment.
  • Follow safety protocols and procedures to ensure a safe working environment.
  • Maintain clean lab working area after completion of job tasks and dispose of debris properly.
