What you’ll do – The opportunity

Description:
Reporting to the Quality Assurance Specialist, the Lab Technician will collect and analyze samples at all stages of brewing and packaging processes (microbiological, chemical, physical, sensory). Location: Wild Rose Brewery, Calgary, AB. Hours of work: 6:00am-6:30AM start – 8-hour shift. Hiring rate is $25.36 per hour.

Responsibilities:

  • Prepare media, solutions, reagents, and sample formulations
  • Conduct tests, and analyses as required (microbiological, chemical, physical)
  • Conduct packaged product testing as required
  • Quality control and audits of production lines
  • Prepare sensory daily line up or comparative testing as required
  • Participate in taste panels
  • Follow work instructions to carry out job duties accurately
  • Operate, maintain, and calibrate the laboratory instruments and quality equipment
  • General housekeeping and using 5S system practices in everyday work
  • Preparing samples for shipments
  • Perform relevant food safety and quality tasks
  • Data entry and communication of results and trends to stakeholders
  • Other duties as required

Requirements:

  • Post Secondary education in a relevant field (Brewing Science, Chemistry, Microbiology, Food Science)
  • Working knowledge of microbiology and chemistry
  • Working knowledge of food safety
  • Previous HACCP, food safety experience considered an asset
  • Previous quality assurance experience considered an asset
  • Previous food and beverage laboratory experience considered an asset
  • Strong computer skills in MS Office Suites (Word, Excel)
  • Perform duties to a high level of accuracy with limited or no direct supervision
  • Effective time management
  • Ability to multi-task in a fast-paced and results driven environment
  • Strong attention to detail to ensure high level of quality at all stages of the brewing and packaging processes
  • Follow all safety and food safety rules, and wear required PPE.
  • Ability to work morning/afternoon shifts, overtime, and/or statutory holidays as required
  • Must be 18 years of age or older

Work Conditions:

  • Exposure to hot, cold and wet environment, noise and hazardous chemicals
  • Hazards typical for analytical and microbiological laboratory
  • Some lifting and carrying involved, occasional working at heights (ladder)
  • Other hazards typical for an alcohol beverage manufacturing facility
