Description:
REQUIREMENTS:
- Must have legal authorization to work in Canada on a full-time basis for anyone other than current employer
- Technical Diploma or Bachelor’s Degree in Chemistry, Environmental Science or any other related field, combined with 2 years related industrial lab experience of hands-on laboratory experience with a diverse range of analytical instruments and techniques, including sample preparation and data analysis
- Knowledge of sampling techniques and product release requirements
- Experience troubleshooting and maintenance in lab equipment ability is required
- Strong foundation in Quality Control Principles
- Working knowledge of AMS EQP and ISO9001/17025 considered an asset
- May be required to fill a reserve worker role

- Perform a full range of laboratory analyses for product certification, water, and hydrocarbon process sample analysis
- Operate, troubleshoot, and maintain laboratory instruments and equipment
- Maintain instrument quality control to ensure accuracy of results
- Communicate daily with control room operators to ensure strong and effective communication between operations and the lab
- Demonstrate self-motivation and takes full initiative to support complex issues with samples and instruments
- Ensure that inventory and audits are performed such as indicated in the Lab Safety and Quality Manuals
- Engage in projects, supporting troubleshooting in the plant and providing solutions
- Exhibit a strong sense of ownership, as off-hours response is occasionally required to handle process and product quality issues
- Prioritize their own work to help meet department and team objectives
- Collaborate in a group of diverse individuals, contributing to a high-performing team
- Define, in coordination with team leader, new analysis capabilities
- Demonstrate the ability to work independently and in a flexible team environment
- Mentor and trains staff and summer students
- Adapts to frequent changes in the work schedule to support Production Units’ business need

About the Opportunity:
Shell Canada is seeking a Lab Technologist to join their high-performing Laboratory Analysis team at Scotford. This team member will operate, troubleshoot, and maintain laboratory instruments and equipment in one of three labs which are Refinery, Chemicals, or Upgrading. This role is also expected to lead by example in the areas of Safety, Product Quality, and Production.
