QUALIFICATIONS:
Required:
- High School Diploma or equiv.
- Graduate of a surgical tech program
- Surgical Tech certification
- BLS through the American Heart Association
SCHEDULING REQUIREMENTS:
- Day Shift
- Part-Time
- 20 hours per week
Responsibilities:
- Assists RNs with appropriate nursing care for the antepartum, intrapartum, postpartum and surgical patient
- Accurately obtains vital signs, weights, and I & Os, and documents on appropriate tools
- Answers call bells promptly and courteously
- Assists in appropriate positions for surgical procedures
- Assists with admission, discharge and transfer process
- Demonstrates and maintains aseptic technique when gowning, gloving, scrubbing, during surgical procedure and setting up delivery table,
- Demonstrates competency in pain management by reporting patients’ pain intensity to staff nurse
- Demonstrates competency in restraint management and application
- Follows proper safety and infection control procedures and maintains a safe work environment
- Identifies criteria for selecting method of disinfection and / or sterilization by following manufacturer s recommendations
- Inspects instrument wrappers for integrity and expiration
- Keeps the patient care area neat and clean
- Prepares soiled instruments for Central Supply processing appropriately and in a timely manner
- Properly collects, processes specimen logbook / labeling and transports specimens to the lab or morgue
- Properly puts away sterile instruments upon delivery from Central Supply Processing
- Responds appropriately to emergency situations
- Safely transfers patients as needed from bed to wheelchair to stretcher, etc and maintains proper body mechanics
- Stocks triage and labor rooms, operating rooms, fetal monitoring carts, warmers and shelves in sub sterile room as needed
- Provides a compassionate and supportive environment with prompt and consistent service,
- Adheres to patient rights: provides for the confidential treatment of all communications and records,
- Demonstrates professionalism with families, visitors, physicians, co-workers and supervisors,
- Listens and communicates effectively
- Supports teamwork by cooperative problem solving through participation in meetings, projects, etc,
- Utilizes principles of continuous quality improvement in all work situations to assess, measure and improve organizational and department functions
- Organizes work sets priorities with a minimum of supervision and seeks guidance as appropriate
