QUALIFICATIONS:

Required:

  • High School Diploma or equiv.
  • Graduate of a surgical tech program
  • Surgical Tech certification
  • BLS through the American Heart Association

SCHEDULING REQUIREMENTS:

  • Day Shift
  • Part-Time
  • 20 hours per week

Responsibilities:

  • Assists RNs with appropriate nursing care for the antepartum, intrapartum, postpartum and surgical patient
  • Accurately obtains vital signs, weights, and I & Os, and documents on appropriate tools
  • Answers call bells promptly and courteously
  • Assists in appropriate positions for surgical procedures
  • Assists with admission, discharge and transfer process
  • Demonstrates and maintains aseptic technique when gowning, gloving, scrubbing, during surgical procedure and setting up delivery table,
  • Demonstrates competency in pain management by reporting patients’ pain intensity to staff nurse
  • Demonstrates competency in restraint management and application
  • Follows proper safety and infection control procedures and maintains a safe work environment
  • Identifies criteria for selecting method of disinfection and / or sterilization by following manufacturer s recommendations
  • Inspects instrument wrappers for integrity and expiration
  • Keeps the patient care area neat and clean
  • Prepares soiled instruments for Central Supply processing appropriately and in a timely manner
  • Properly collects, processes specimen logbook / labeling and transports specimens to the lab or morgue
  • Properly puts away sterile instruments upon delivery from Central Supply Processing
  • Responds appropriately to emergency situations
  • Safely transfers patients as needed from bed to wheelchair to stretcher, etc and maintains proper body mechanics
  • Stocks triage and labor rooms, operating rooms, fetal monitoring carts, warmers and shelves in sub sterile room as needed
  • Provides a compassionate and supportive environment with prompt and consistent service,
  • Adheres to patient rights: provides for the confidential treatment of all communications and records,
  • Demonstrates professionalism with families, visitors, physicians, co-workers and supervisors,
  • Listens and communicates effectively
  • Supports teamwork by cooperative problem solving through participation in meetings, projects, etc,
  • Utilizes principles of continuous quality improvement in all work situations to assess, measure and improve organizational and department functions
  • Organizes work sets priorities with a minimum of supervision and seeks guidance as appropriate
