We have the most advanced diagnostic imaging equipment available today, full Cardiological facilities including a Cardiac Catheterisation Suite and Clinical Laboratory services.
The role is responsible for the provision of quality service in line with standards of Laboratory practice and we have permanent and contract roles available. As a key member of the frontline team, the Laboratory Aide will work under the direction of Laboratory Medical Scientists demonstrate professionalism, team working skills and facilitate effective communication with colleagues in the hospital. The position requires a participatory approach to the development of services and structures, embracing continuous quality improvement and the management of changes necessary to achieve organisational objectives.
Responsibilities:
- Sorting and receiving different types of samples (bloods, microbiology and histology specimens) sent to the laboratory.
- Receive and record specimens onto Meditech system, ensuring that all samples and forms are correctly labelled.
- Using of the Pneumatic Tube Transport system for receipt and dispatch of pathology samples.
- Collect and deliver specimens, reports, and samples throughout the hospital as required.
- Performing pre analytical tasks for in house and send out tests eg. centrifuging, incubation, aliquoting, freezing.
- Preparing and sending samples to external laboratories and arranging transport of samples to external laboratories.
- File and store samples as required and maintain records.
- Receive, record and process telephone inquiries to the relevant staff and make outgoing calls, faxes as required.
- Taking, recording and delivering phone messages.
- Collecting, preparing, and disposing of laboratory waste.
- Cleaning of laboratory benches and equipment as required.
- Issue requested laboratory results by phone, fax and encrypted email as required and as per laboratory procedures and via use of Meditech, Medibridge and other sources of laboratory results.
- Assist Medical Scientist and Clerical Officer with inputting of results from external referral laboratories onto Meditech.
- Sorting of laboratory result reports for internal and external post.
- Collect and deliver laboratory post throughout the hospital and external to the hospital as required.
