Description:
INTRODUCTION
At Hydro, our purpose is to create more viable societies by developing natural resources into products and solutions in innovative and efficient ways. To fulfill this purpose, Hydro is committed to achieving net-zero greenhouse gas emissions by 2050 or earlier.
Innovation and Technology Precision Tubing (I&T PT) is seeking a Lab Engineer to enhance our R&D organization. This role offers the opportunity to influence the future of new aluminum products, deepen your understanding of industrial aluminum manufacturing processes, and collaborate with colleagues across various disciplines within PT and other Hydro business areas. We value colleagues who collaborate, share experiences, and care for both each other and the environment we work in. To thrive in this position, you should be curious, driven by continuous learning and development, and motivated by understanding and advancing our company in collaboration with others. Safety is our top priority, and we expect you to uphold this value in all that you do.
QUALIFICATIONS
We are seeking a candidate with at least 3-4 years of experience in a similar role. A Bachelor’s degree or technical qualification in Metallurgy, Materials, Chemistry, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field is required. Experience working in a laboratory environment with a Lean mindset is essential, alongside expertise in the calibration and maintenance of analytical equipment. Familiarity with international standards related to materials and corrosion testing is important, and knowledge of aluminum alloys 3XXX and 6XXX and their corrosion behavior would be highly advantageous. A solid understanding of surface chemistry is also beneficial. Proficiency in English (both written and spoken) is a must, as well as experience with Microsoft Office applications. We value a customer-oriented attitude, a positive mindset, and a strong drive to continuously learn and develop new skills.
Additional qualifications include:
- Numerical Skills: Ability to run experiments and report results accurately.
- Teamwork: Strong collaboration skills within a cross-functional team.
- Flexibility: Willingness to adapt to the fast-paced nature of laboratory activities.
- Attention to Detail: High precision in following protocols, quality procedures, and identifying deviations from expected results.
- Hand-Eye Coordination: Proficiency in using laboratory equipment and handling samples with accuracy.
- Organizational Skills: Ability to maintain the lab’s organization, manage supplies, and ensure equipment readiness.
- Time Management: Capable of handling multiple projects efficiently.
- Written Communication Skills: Clear and concise record-keeping of laboratory activities, ensuring compliance with internal SOPs and external regulations.
- Structural Problem-Solving: Ability to approach problems in a methodical and effective manner.
Responsibilities:
As a Lab Engineer, you will be responsible for planning and ensuring that testing schedules are met. You will work with various analytical equipment such as SEM-EDX, Potentiostat, Corrosion Chamber, and Optical microscopes to conduct tests and analyze results. It will be your responsibility to drive customer-required tests, analyze the data, and report findings on time. You will also be part of a team focused on laboratory development and participate in research projects and problem-solving activities within I&T PT. You are encouraged to initiate, define, and propose innovative ideas, while also implementing Lean tools for continuous improvement in the lab. Additionally, you will actively contribute to the development and implementation of HSE policies and programs, ensuring adherence to all safety and work procedures.
