About Us
Located in the Centre for Gene Therapy and Regenerative Medicine at Guy’s Hospital (London, UK), the Lord Lab focussed on lymphocyte biology (predominantly T cells/Tregs and innate lymphoid cells). We investigate transcriptional and post-translational control of gene expression in these cell types, with particular emphasis on lineage-specific transcription factors and microRNAs. In addition, we undertake fist in human clinical trials of cell therapy to treat autoimmune diseases, particularly inflammatory bowel disease.
About the role
We are seeking a Laboratory Manager with a PhD in infectious diseases, immunology or molecular biology or a related field. Design, implement, and supervise key research projects involving advanced immunological techniques such as flow cytometry, ELISA, multiplex assays, and molecular biology methods (e.g., CRISPR/Cas9, qPCR, and RNA/DNA extraction).
Responsibilities include managing daily lab tasks such as ordering supplies, maintaining organisation, monitoring stocks, aliquoting, and assisting with experiments as needed. Provide advanced technical expertise gained through experience and/or formal qualification, in a broad range of scientific/technical areas, and proficient use of complex procedures that require considerable skill with a thorough understanding of the underlying technical/scientific theory and recent advances. Take independent decisions in a timely manner to solve problems that impact on the service for up to year and contribute to collaborative decisions that have far-reaching.
You will participate in lab meetings, acquire and analyse data from in vitro and in vivo samples and assist in writing paper and grant applications.
This is a full time post, and you will be offered an indefinite contract. This position requires full-time on-site work.
About You
To be successful in this role, we are looking for candidates to have the following skills and experience:

Essential criteria

  • PhD in infectious diseases, immunology or molecular biology
  • At least one year postdoctoral experience in immunology, immunometabolism, or related fields
  • Comprehensive technical experience and knowledge of a range of immunological techniques & scientific procedures and the underpinning scientific theory applicable to the work area and their environmental impact. Such as flow cytometry, ELISA, Multiplex assay and immune profiling
  • Proven experience in managing and delivering complex research projects, including budget management and laboratory operations
  • Solutions-focused self-starter, with excellent planning and analytical skills, able to manage staff and facilities, setting performance standards, and establishing protocols to deliver these. Excellent organisational and communication skills
  • Comprehensive knowledge of regulations and best practice governing area of work, including Health & Safety and environmental sustainability
  • Knowledge of environmental impacts of laboratory work and an interest in reducing the negative impacts
  • Experience supervising and mentoring postgraduate students and junior researchers

Desirable criteria

  • Strong expertise in clinical trial coordination or biomarker discovery, with a focus on application of laboratory research to improve patient diagnostics and therapeutic outcomes
  • Experience in the management and analysis of large-scale patient sample collections for immunological studies, including experienced in handling and processing biological samples such as blood and tissue under ethical and regulatory guidelines
  • Experienced in handling human, animal samples
  • Expertise in translational research involving patient samples and immune monitoring
