Description:

The Research Laboratory Manager reports to the Assistant Director, Clinical Operations, and provides oversight with managing the day-to-day operations of the lab.

EDUCATION:

  • Bachelor’s degree in a related scientific discipline.

EXPERIENCE:

  • Minimum of five years of experience.
  • Must have previous experience managing projects.
  • Experience must include a minimum of one year in a lead/supervisory/managerial role

EDUCATION:

  • A Master’s degree or PhD is preferred.

Immunization

IMMUNIZATION REQUIREMENTS

It is MSM’s Immunization policy that all Prospective Employees are required to provide proof that they are vaccinated against COVID-19 prior to commencement of employment. If employment will commence during Flu Season, MSM requires all individuals to provide proof that they are vaccinated against Seasonal Influenza for the current Flu Season, unless granted an exemption. Failure to provide proof of vaccination for any required vaccines or obtain an exemption from MSM will result in rescission of a candidate’s offer of employment or disciplinary action up to and including termination.

  • Must be familiar with the operation of standard lab equipment and with lab safety and biosafety procedures
  • Ability to work independently
  • Proficient with web-based applications, databases and Microsoft Excel
  • Excellent organizational, time management, written and verbal communication skills are essential for this role
  • Strong managerial skill

Responsibilities:

  • Functions as a skilled individual contributor or lead researcher on one or more research projects, serving as an expert in specialized area(s)
  • Manages research projects, develops and administers budgets, schedules, and performance metrics
  • Oversees lab activities related to space, lab equipment, compliance, safety, procurement, quality assurance and quality control
  • Direct supervision of laboratory staff including delegation of work assignments, recruitment, training and development, performance management, and career development
  • Supervises and trains lab technicians, research assistants, research coordinators, interns, students, and other personnel in laboratory techniques and procedures
  • Designs, develops and conducts large and/or complex research experiments
  • Reviews progress of research and evaluates results
  • Refines/adapts methodologies to fit specific experiment requirements
  • Collaborates in the development of new techniques, data analysis, and manuscript preparation
  • Co-authors publications and may co-present findings with Principal Investigator at meetings/conferences
  • Follows and ensures staff follows industry standards and safety regulations for handling and disposing of test samples
  • Performs related responsibilities as required
