Description:
The Cambridge Institute for Medical Research (CIMR) is recruiting an organised, good team-player with basic tissue culture skills to a Research Assistant/Lab Manager position. We seek individuals with at least a Bachelor’s degree, good organisation skills, basic cell culture and cell biology experience who will manage a vibrant lab 50% of the time and assist research projects 50% of the time. The studies will mainly involve cell biology approaches and the successful applicant will work in the lab of Professor David Rubinsztein (Cambridge Institute for Medical Research; UK Dementia Research Institute).
Recent publications from the lab include: SJ Park, et al (2024). Nuclear proteasomes buffer cytoplasmic proteins during autophagy compromise. Nature Cell Biology 26:1691-1699; Y Zhu, et al. (2024), Loss of WIPI4 in neurodegeneration causes autophagy-independent ferroptosis. Nature Cell Biology 26:542-551; SM Son, et al. (2024) p300 nucleocytoplasmic shuttling underlies mTORC1 hyperactivation in Hutchinson-Gilford Progeria Syndrome. Nature Cell Biology 26:235-249.
This is a full-time post, however applications from those wishing to work part-time will be considered. If employed part-time, at least 18.5 hours (50% of full-time) would be on lab manager tasks and duties, with the remainder on research assistant tasks. Ideally, the working hours would be over 5 days (Monday-Friday) due to the operational demands of the laboratory.
Funding is available for up to 18 months in the first instance and the position is available immediately.
The Cambridge Institute for Medical Research (CIMR) is located on the Cambridge Biomedical Campus and it is a collaborative institute at the interface between fundamental research and the clinic, with a mission to determine the molecular mechanisms of disease in order to advance human health.
We welcome applications from individuals who wish to be considered for part-time working or other flexible working arrangements.
